Constant False-alarm Rate(CFAR). A constant false-alarm rate in the presence of variable levels of noise is usually a requirement placed on any modern radar. It is easily achieved in CW radars by use of filter banks. The energy reaching the filter bank is restricted either by automatic gain control or, when feasible, by limiting, and the thresholds in the circuitry following the filter bank are properly set with respect to the level in the total band. In a typical setting technique, random noise is injected into the amplifier that drives the filter bank, and each threshold is set to achieve the desired false-alarm rate. The level of noise is then varied and the threshold rechecked. If the limiting is proper, the false-alarm rate should not change. However, target signals in the absence of noise are unaffected, as they do not change the total energy present in the broad doppler spectrum sufficiently to reach the limiting level. 1, record 1, English, - constant%20false%2Dalarm%20rate

The Kerrison Predictor was one of the first fully automated anti-aircraft fire-control systems. The Predictor solved the problem by doing all of the calculations mechanically through a complex system of gears. Inputs to its calculations included wind speed, ballistics of the gun and the rounds it fired, angle to the target in azimuth and altitude, and a user-input estimated target speed. Some of these inputs were fed in by dials, which turned gearing inside the Predictor to calculate the range(from the change in angle and estimated speed) and direction of motion. 1, record 4, English, - Kerrison%20Predictor

The image processing consisted in generating intensity images and one coherence image. To facilitate their analysis and interpretation, a coloured composition has been created with the results. This composition is obtained by adding the coherence image in red, the average of both images phase intensities in green and the difference between these phase intensities in blue. As such, a high coherence level(value close to 1) appears in red and indicates a very good phase correlation between the two images, a consequence of the various mechanisms of radar signal scattering and of the lack of change which could affect the target. On the contrary, a weak coherence level(value tending to 0) appears in black and indicates a movement in these zones during the 24 hours interval which separated the two image shots. Lastly, the white spots correspond to areas with a strong radar signal backscattering i. e. with zones of hills or vegetation. 3, record 9, English, - colour%20composition

The new design methods will also radically change the handling of drawings. All the information required can be collected from the data base. As information is stored in one place only and is automatically transferred without manual intervention, it is possible to achieve the target of zero errors. The "scale-less site" has changed the site structure and procedures so that they fit into an efficient design process. 3-D design permits the correct amounts of building materials to be delivered in the exact form to the site or site factory for efficient assembly. We have obtained an industrialised process that is characterised by : Better working conditions; Ecological building; Functionally correct buildings; Quality; Radically shorter design times; Lower costs. 1, record 14, English, - site%20factory

The angle defined by the incident radar beam and the vertical (normal) to the intercepting surface. 3, record 23, English, - incidence%20angle
Record number: 23, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The incidence angle is commonly used to describe the angular relationship between the radar beam and the ground, surface layer or a target. A change of the radar illumination angle often affects the radar backscattering behaviour of a surface or target. The incidence angle changes across the radar image swath; it increases from near range to far range. In the case of satellite radar imagery, the change of incidence angle for flat terrain across the imaging swath tends to be rather small, usually on the order of several degrees. In the case of an inclined surface(slope), the local incidence angle is defined as the angle between the incident radar beam and a line that is normal to that surface. The local incidence angle determining, in part, the brightness, or image tone, for each picture element(pixel) and slope facet, is a key element in the prominent rendition of terrain features in radar imagery. 3, record 23, English, - incidence%20angle

A target price of $15 has been set as the maximum that industry will have to pay to offset one tonne of carbon.... All Canadian companies will have the opportunity to capitalize on reducing carbon emissions starting in 2008, but the credit process and eventual market potential are still unclear. As the system unfolds, it will be important for Large Final Emitters and other companies or individuals to maximize their potential gain.... Evaluation of an intended nutritional change requires steps that are similar to those used in either the addition of a vitamin or mineral nutrient to a food or the evaluation of foods with health claims or both. For instance, such a change would trigger questions concerning the intended target group, what level of the targeted nutrient or other bioactive substance is expected in the food, what is the expected change in level of exposure to the targeted nutrient or other bioactive substance across all age and sex groups and at the upper and lower extremes of intake of the food, and the safety of this level of exposure. 2, record 26, English, - bioactive%20substance

The laser Doppler velocimeter sends a monochromatic laser beam toward the target and collects the reflected radiation. According to the Doppler effect, the change in wavelength of the reflected radiation is a function of the targeted object's relative velocity. Thus, the velocity of the object can be obtained by measuring the change in wavelength of the reflected laser light, which is done by forming an interference fringe pattern(i. e. superimpose the original and reflected signals). 3, record 31, English, - laser%20Doppler%20velocimeter

The physical adsorption method for the immobilization of enzyme is based on the physical adsorption of enzyme protein on the surface of water-insoluble carriers. This method often causes little or no conformational change of the enzyme protein, or destruction of its active center. Accordingly, if a suitable carrier for the target enzyme is found, this method may be both simple and effective. However, this method has the disadvantage that the adsorbed enzyme may leak from the carrier during utilization, because the binding force between the enzyme protein and carrier is weak. 1, record 35, English, - adsorbed%20enzyme
