TARGET FORMATION [15 records]

Record 1 2022-10-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Climatology
CONT

Two pathways to glaciogenic cloud seeding were developed. Static seeding aims at using modest or "optimal" amount of seeds with the target of forming ice(or snow) crystals that collect supercooled droplets in a process called riming, which leads to formation of graupels and their precipitation. The dynamic seeding aims at rapid glaciation of the whole cloud by using large amounts of seeds.

OBS

Glaciogenic cloud seeding is usually done by dispersing efficient ice nuclei, such as silver iodide particles or dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) into the cloud, causing heterogeneous ice nucleation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Climatologie
CONT

DEF

The underground formation chosen for drilling and gas extraction.

CONT

The refinement of the hydraulic fracture process that occurs as operators collect more resource specific data, helps to create a more optimized fracture pattern within the target formation to increase gas production and ensure that the fractures do not grow out of the formation which may reduce production.

Petrophysics is the study of the physical properties and the rock and fluid interaction in petroleum systems. A petrophysicist in the oil and gas industry helps fill in some of the details after geologists and geophysicists have found a reservoir target. Specifically, they create a clear picture of the reservoir's rock formation, fluid content, permeability and porosity.

Imagery Exploitation System (IES). Modernized Imagery Exploitation System (MIES). MIES is a Corps and EAC tactical imagery exploitation system capable of receiving, processing, and disseminating national and theater imagery. The MIES provides first phase imagery exploitation for the Indications and Warnings (I&W) missions of Army users. The system provides IMINT reports and Secondary Imagery Dissemination (SID) through an extensive communications section. It travels with its own satellite communications (SATCOM) system that provides the relayed national imagery through the Defense Dissemination System (DDS).

CONT

The imagery Exploitation System/Balanced Technology Initiative(IES/BTI) is a first phase near-real time image exploitation system to support Army Corps intelligence and electronic warfare(IEW) situation development, target development and target acquisition. IES/BTI exploits synthetic aperture radar(SAR) and infrared(IR) imagery and annotates the presence and type(artillery, armor, etc) of military units(company size and above). IES/BTI employs a hierarchical reasoning paradigm, using Bayesian inference for hypotheses management and belief propagation to solve the complex force/terrain/military situation and formation.

DEF

A compound that serves as a component of cell wall mucopeptide in some bacteria and as a source of lysine in all bacteria.

CONT

Design and synthesis of inhibitors of biosynthesis of peptidoglycan, a key constituent of bacterial cell walls and a target for broad spectrum antibiotics. Special emphasis is on blocking formation and utilization of diaminopimelic acid(DAP) as well as preventing polymerization of the polysaccharide backbone.

CONT

Lysine has two distinct biosynthetic pathways, the diaminopimelic acid pathway and the [alpha]-aminoadipic acid pathway. The diaminopimelic acid pathway operates in bacteria, some lower fungi, algae, and higher plants. It begins with condensation of pyruvate with aspartate ß-semialdehyde and ends with decarboxylation of diaminopimelate. Diaminopimelate is an important constituent of bacterial cell walls. The [alpha]-aminoadipic acid pathway is less widespread and functions in other lower fungi, in higher fungi, and in the protist Euglena.

CONT
