TARGET ORGANISM [7 records]

Record 1 2024-12-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Food Safety
  • Industrial Techniques and Processes
  • Collaboration with the FAO
CONT

One of the key parameters to be considered in any thermally processed foods is the target organism, which could be a pathogen or spoilage organism, which should be adequately reduced by the process.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Salubrité alimentaire
  • Techniques industrielles
  • Collaboration avec la FAO
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Toxicology
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
CONT

It is often useful to make a distinction between a "dose-effect" relationship, i.e. the graded response after exposure to varying doses of a toxicant, and a "dose-response" relationship, i.e. the incidence at which a "quantal" response occurs in a population exposed to varying doses of the toxicant.

CONT

The dose-effect relationship is the relationship between dose and effect on the individual level. An increase in dose may increase the intensity of an effect, or a more severe effect may result. A dose-effect curve may be obtained at the level of the whole organism, the cell or the target molecule. Some toxic effects, such as death or cancer, are not graded but are "all or none" effects.

Key term(s)
  • dose/effect

French

Domaine(s)
  • Toxicologie
  • Études et analyses environnementales
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
  • Biotechnology
CONT

A construct is a piece of DNA [deoxyribonucleic acid] which functions as the vehicle or vector carrying the target gene into the recipient organism. It has several different regions... There is a promoter region which controls the activity of the target gene, a region where the target DNA is inserted, usually some type of reporter gene to enable one to ascertain whether the target has combined successfully with the construct and a termination sequence.

DEF
