Side echoes[ :] Squeezing a... multi-directional radio wave into a directional radar wave is never fully achieved. Not all of the radar wave can be focused by the radar aerial into the main lobe. synthetic aperture radar; SAR :[A] synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is a side-looking imaging radar usually operating on either an aircraft or a spacecraft. The radar transmits a series of short, coherent pulses to the ground producing a footprint whose size is inversely proportional to the antenna size, its aperture. Because the antenna size is generally small, the footprint is large and any particular target is illuminated by several hundred radar pulses. Intensive signal processing involving the detection of small Doppler shifts in the reflected signals from targets to the moving radar produces a high resolution image that is equivalent to one that would have been collected by a radar with a much larger aperture. 4, record 8, English, - C%2Dband%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

The repeater, which consists of an amplifier and a programmable delay line, amplifies and delays the intercepted signal. By transmitting this signal back to the radar and gradually increasing the delay, the range gate in the radar tracking system can be captured and pulled away from the target echo, thereby producing range deception. The image processing consisted in generating intensity images and one coherence image. To facilitate their analysis and interpretation, a coloured composition has been created with the results. This composition is obtained by adding the coherence image in red, the average of both images phase intensities in green and the difference between these phase intensities in blue. As such, a high coherence level(value close to 1) appears in red and indicates a very good phase correlation between the two images, a consequence of the various mechanisms of radar signal scattering and of the lack of change which could affect the target. On the contrary, a weak coherence level(value tending to 0) appears in black and indicates a movement in these zones during the 24 hours interval which separated the two image shots. Lastly, the white spots correspond to areas with a strong radar signal backscattering i. e. with zones of hills or vegetation. 3, record 18, English, - colour%20composition

8, record 39, French, - radar%20%C3%A0%20synth%C3%A8se%20d%27ouverture

Imagery Exploitation System (IES). Modernized Imagery Exploitation System (MIES). MIES is a Corps and EAC tactical imagery exploitation system capable of receiving, processing, and disseminating national and theater imagery. The MIES provides first phase imagery exploitation for the Indications and Warnings (I&W) missions of Army users. The system provides IMINT reports and Secondary Imagery Dissemination (SID) through an extensive communications section. It travels with its own satellite communications (SATCOM) system that provides the relayed national imagery through the Defense Dissemination System (DDS). 2, record 68, English, - imagery%20exploitation%20system

MDV determines whether the majority of military traffic, which often moves very slowly, will be visible. To capture the majority of this traffic, a radar must have the ability to detect the lowest possible radial velocity. As a target's radial velocity approaches zero, the target will fall into the clutter or "blind zone. "The clutter spread is a function of a radar's antenna real bandwidth. When a target is in clutter, traditional MTI [moving target indicator] radars can either detect the target or locate it, but not both. 1, record 71, English, - minimum%20detectable%20velocity

The angle defined by the incident radar beam and the vertical (normal) to the intercepting surface. 3, record 76, English, - incidence%20angle
Record number: 76, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The incidence angle is commonly used to describe the angular relationship between the radar beam and the ground, surface layer or a target. A change of the radar illumination angle often affects the radar backscattering behaviour of a surface or target. The incidence angle changes across the radar image swath; it increases from near range to far range. In the case of satellite radar imagery, the change of incidence angle for flat terrain across the imaging swath tends to be rather small, usually on the order of several degrees. In the case of an inclined surface(slope), the local incidence angle is defined as the angle between the incident radar beam and a line that is normal to that surface. The local incidence angle determining, in part, the brightness, or image tone, for each picture element(pixel) and slope facet, is a key element in the prominent rendition of terrain features in radar imagery. 3, record 76, English, - incidence%20angle

When both the amplitude and the phase information are available, it is possible to synthesize the polarization response for all the polarization states. To synthesize the response, phase information and two orthogonal(transmit and receive) polarization states are required. For example, most spaceborne SAR's(e. g. RADARSAT-2) use the HH and VV polarization configuration to satisfy the orthogonality condition. Three dimensional polarization response plots are typically used to illustrate the polarimetry response for a given target. The following conventions are commonly used : The radar response is normalized between 0 and 1 [. ] The horizontal axes are the ellipticity angle... and the orientation angle... The ellipticity angle ranges between-45°(right circularly polarized) and +45°(left circularly polarized). When [ellipticity angle equals 0°, we have linear polarization. Record number: 98, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The three common SAR acquisition modes ...: Stripmap SAR, Spotlight SAR, and ScanSAR. ... A Spotlight SAR steers the antenna beam to continuously illuminate a certain region on ground much longer than in the Stripmap case [Carrara et al., 1995]. As a result, the azimuth bandwidth becomes larger, which hence may be exploited to increase the azimuth resolution. ... It offers the possibility to measure different components of the surface current using only a single pass (in case of a spotlight single-pass interferometry configuration). To this purpose the total azimuth bandwidth is divided into different (e.g. two) non-overlapping parts which are processed separately with their individual optimum Doppler centroid values so that the resulting images represent observations from two different aspect angles. A spotlight system operated in that way provides data similar to a Dual-Beam ATI [Allied Telesyn International] configuration. 4, record 98, English, - spotlight%2Dmode
