Stopping(orbital insertion). The ability to slow down from a heliocentric orbit and to enter a desired orbit around a target planet is a basic requirement for virtually all augmentation missions. The Mars sample return mission, for example, requires two such orbit insertions. First, the spacecraft must enter orbit around Mars, and later, the sample return capsule must safely enter orbit around Earth to await recovery. 1, record 1, English, - orbit%20insertion

Doppler lidar is used to measure the velocity of a target. When the light transmitted from the lidar hits a target moving towards or away from the lidar, the wavelength of the light reflected/scattered off the target will be changed slightly. This is known as a Doppler shift-hence Doppler Lidar. If the target is moving away from the lidar, the return light will have a longer wavelength(sometimes referred to as a red shift), if moving towards the lidar the return light will be at a shorter wavelength(blue shifted). The target can be either a hard target or an atmospheric target-the atmosphere contains many microscopic dust and aerosol particles which are carried by the wind. 3, record 13, English, - Doppler%20lidar

(...), the MTD [Moving Target Detection] principle involves dividing up the entire radar coverage area into small range-azimuth cells-(...) called ’coherent processing intervals’(CPI). Eight pulses generated at a constant repetition frequency are assigned to each cell, and each return is subjected to Doppler filtering over a range of velocity values. The particular feature of MTD is its ability to measure the density of clutter and to detect the sudden presence of an additional element-such as an aircraft moving into a particular cell-even though it may have zero relative velocity on account of its tangential track. 1, record 29, English, - coherent%20processing%20interval

1, record 29, French, - intervalle%20de%20traitement%20coh%C3%A9rent
