The Children's Oral Health Initiative(COHI) was developed as a means to address the disparity between the oral health of First Nations and Inuit and that of the general Canadian population. COHI was launched on a test basis in Fall 2004. COHI focuses on the prevention of dental disease and promotion of good oral health practices. The goal of COHI is to shift the emphasis from a primarily treatment based approach to a more balanced prevention and treatment focus. The initial focus for oral health promotion will be directed at three target groups : pregnant women and primary caregivers; pre-school children, 0-4 years of age; and school children, 5-7 years of age. Health Canada expects that the COHI, once fully implemented in subsequent years, will result in significant improvement of the oral health in First Nations and Inuit. 1, record 1, English, - Children%26rsquo%3Bs%20Oral%20Health%20Initiative

Record 5, Textual support, English
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 DEF
[Index that] measures language continuity, or vitality, by comparing the number of those who speak a given language at home to the number of those who learned that language as their mother tongue. 3, record 5, English, - language%20continuity%20index
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Much of the drop in the target student population can be attributed to non-transmission of the language at home. With a language continuity index of about 70% since 1971, the target student population is expected to drop even more sharply. The school definitely plays a role in this transmission and, clearly, measures that ensure the transmission of French must continue to be implemented, because the right to instruction in French will be lost if French is no longer used as a mother tongue by the target student population or as a language of instruction. 5, record 5, English, - language%20continuity%20index
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
In Ontario, as revealed by the index of continuity, only 63% of the French mother tongue population speaks that language at home. 6, record 5, English, - language%20continuity%20index
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Index of continuity (HL/MT) ... A ratio less than 100 indicates some decline in the strength of the language (i.e., for every 100 people with an Aboriginal mother tongue, there are fewer than 100 in the overall population who use it at home). The lower the score, the greater the decline or erosion. 3, record 5, English, - language%20continuity%20index

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 5, French, - indice%20de%20continuit%C3%A9%20linguistique
