The Kerrison Predictor was one of the first fully automated anti-aircraft fire-control systems. The Predictor solved the problem by doing all of the calculations mechanically through a complex system of gears. Inputs to its calculations included wind speed, ballistics of the gun and the rounds it fired, angle to the target in azimuth and altitude, and a user-input estimated target speed. Some of these inputs were fed in by dials, which turned gearing inside the Predictor to calculate the range(from the change in angle and estimated speed) and direction of motion. 1, record 2, English, - Kerrison%20Predictor

The Space Shuttle stops within 50 meters of Mir, which is approximately one-half the length of a football field. From that position the Space Shuttle waits for clearance from Mission Control to continue. When the command is given to continue, the Reaction Control System is activated again and the Space Shuttle closes in on Mir at a speed of about 0. 05 meters per second until it reaches a distance of about 9 meters. There, the Space Shuttle stops again and waits for approximately 5 minutes. The Commander and Pilot make sure they can see the docking target clearly and fine-tune the alignment of the Space Shuttle with the docking target. A large black cross called the Stand-off Cross is mounted 30 centimeters(cm) above the back plate in the center of the target. When the Commander has the Stand-off Cross squarely in line with the docking target, he or she maneuvers the Space Shuttle and makes contact with the docking ring. Once a series of hooks is engaged, the Space Shuttle is then successfully docked with Mir. 2, record 19, English, - docking%20target

Tracking tasks focus on motor activities as distinct from perceptual or cognitive activities to perform the task the subject aligns a marker with a target. The marker may be the subject's own finger or, more usually, a cursor or pointer operated using a control such as a joystick, handwheel or keyboard. The target may be a series of lights which illuminate in random order, or a moving line on a screen. Tracking tasks are often visual by may be auditory or tactile. Every tracking task is jointly controlled by the subject and the system and, whatever the configuration, data is gathered on the speed and accuracy of the subject's responses to changes in the status of the target. Tracking tasks are characterized in three ways : 1. pursuit vs compensatory tracking, 2. system-paced vs subject-paced tracking, 3. step vs continuous input tracking. 1, record 26, English, - tracking%20task
