TARGET VERIFICATION [5 records]

CONT

To calculate the security verification requirement..., the terminal kill probabilities(TKPs) of all types of strategic missiles possessed by [country A] and [country B] should first be computed. Ideally a calculation of the terminal kill probabilities of warheads attacking a set of different silos requires detailed knowledge of which particular silo is to be targeted and by what warhead.... The TKP value of a warhead indicates the chances that this warhead will destroy a known hardened target. When a certain number of a given type of warheads are used against a known number of silos, the TKP value indicates the percentage of these silos to be destroyed.

DEF

A novel treatment approach where the ring gantry irradiation geometry of a helical CT [computed tomography] scanner is combined with an intensity-modulated megavoltage x-ray fan beam.

CONT

Unlike standard radiotherapy, in which treatment is delivered through one or a few separate beams, helical tomotherapy delivers treatment with a rotating, intensity-modulated fan beam. The patient is translated through the ring of the gantry while the beam is rotated around, so that the treatment beam forms a helical shape in a similar manner to that of computed tomography(CT) scans. The ring gantry provides a stable platform to perform tomographic verification of both setup and delivered dose.... Because of the complete freedom of helical tomotherapy to deliver treatment from all angles around the patient and with intensity modulation and inverse treatment planning, it is possible to treat highly complex and irregular target volumes while giving a low radiation dose to surrounding normal structures.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
CONT

Hydrological Data Collection. In order to model the hydrology of a stream study segment over a range of flow rates, it is necessary to collect specific data defining the hydraulic boundary conditions. Boundary conditions define the target hydraulic simulation output, i. e. the desired flow rate, velocity and water surface elevation at the up-stream and down-stream ends of the segment. Hydraulic boundary are typically defined by flow rate, velocity magnitude and direction and/or water surface elevation. Boundary conditions, for instream flow analysis, are usually defined at the up-stream or down-stream boundaries of the study segment. In addition to the boundary conditions it is important to collect both quantitative and qualitative hydraulic information within the boundaries of the study segment. This additional data is used for model calibration and verification.

  • Computer Programs and Programming
DEF

A computer program used to simulate the execution characteristics of a target computer using a sequence of instructions of a host computer. The instruction simulator provides bit-for-bit fidelity with the results that would be produced by the target computer following the same operations and initial conditions. Instruction simulators are a major tool used in the verification and validation of flight software.
