Located on the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, the Eastern Cereal and Oilseed Research Centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has one of the largest groups of systematic mycologists in North America, with expertise in most major taxonomic groups. The National Fungal Identification Service(NFIS) provides identifications for government, industry, universities, hospitals, poison information centres and private individuals.

ITIS is an international attempt by the United States, Canada and Mexico to build the first comprehensive, standardized reference for the scientific names of the flora and fauna of importance for North America. They are probably best known as a principal cause of "red tides" and paralytic shellfish poisoning.
