The confined research field trial program provides developers with an opportunity to grow PNTs [Plant with a Novel Trait] for research purposes under terms and conditions of confinement which are designed to minimize any impact the PNT may have on the environment. These research trials allow developers to evaluate the field performance of their PNT, to collect information to address the environmental safety criteria necessary for an application for unconfined release, or to undertake academic research. 1, record 1, English, - confined%20research%20field%20trial%20program

1, record 1, French, - programme%20d%27essais%20de%20recherche%20au%20champ%20en%20conditions%20confin%C3%A9es

Osteoarthritis is a form of non-inflammatory arthritis, which is caused by the breakdown of cartilage, which covers and protects bones. Often due to "wear and tear", pain and swelling can occur when the cartilage breaks down. Eventually, the cartilage may wear away entirely and bones will rub together. 7, record 16, English, - osteoarthritis

5, record 16, French, - arthrose

Pneumatic systems are often compared to hydraulic systems, but such comparisons can only hold true in general terms.... Control valves are... a necessary part of a typical pneumatic system.... The control valve consists of a lever with two lobes. [In the off position], a spring holds the left poppet closed so that compressed air entering the pressure port cannot flow to the brakes. [In the on position], one lobe of the lever holds the left poppet open and a spring closes the right poppet. Compressed air now flows around the opened left poppet, through a drilled passage, and into a chamber below the right poppet. Since the right poppet is closed, the high-pressure air flows out of the brake port and into the brake line to apply the brakes. To release the brakes, the control valve is returned to the off position. 3, record 20, English, - control%20valve

"Glide avalanches" occur when the entire snowpack (from ground to surface) slides slowly downslope. A large crack (called a "glide crack") is formed at the top of the slope, and below this crack is where the snow is slipping down the hill. The rate of glide is variable and based on many factors (not well understood). The two biggest influences are the ground cover (smooth grass and rock slab cause glide) as well as the amount of free water at the base of the snowpack which can lubricate the sliding surface. Often these glide slabs will slip downhill for months, or most of the winter. They are very unpredictable and when they decide to release then we generally get a very large avalanche because the entire snowpack depth to the ground slides. When the glide slab finally releases - that is a "glide avalanche." [Reference: Grant Statham, Avalanche Specialist, Parks Canada.] 4, record 22, English, - glide%20avalanche

Surrender is a generic term for all acts of the kind, [mentioned in the definition] but the following specific terms, including surrender itself, are normally used depending on what is surrender : surrender for an estate, lease, patent, insurance policy or physical object; disclaimer, renunciation, for an estate, succession, inheritance or office, especially if not yet vested or if unwanted or burdensome; resignation, reliquishment, for an office; waiver release, for a right of action; waiver renunciation, for a right to attend a meeting, right to receive notice, right to generally to the benefit of an obligation; release for a debt, usually on its satisfaction, e. g. for a mortgage; remission for an unsatisfied debt; discontinuance for the reliquishment and consequent termination of a judicial action by written notice given by a plaintiff, or for the termination of an abandoned action by court order. All the above should be clearly distinguished from abandonment, which is a unilateral and unwritten act of relinquishment, e. g. of a child, a ship, land, a building, goods, or of a judicial action where no notice of relinquishment is given by the plaintiff(in which connection abandonment does not terminate the action if the possibility subsists of it being revived) ;and from forfeiture, which is involuntary. 3, record 25, English, - abdication

A reduced rate of release may be desirable for several reasons. Where a prolonged action is required it is desirable that the dosage form provides a slow and constant supply of the drug. The active component is given in a larger dose and released at a rate which is safe and which maintains therapeutic blood concentrations for a prolonged period. Where a high local concentration of an irritant drug causes tissue necrosis and ulceration of the mucosal wall, damage can largely be prevented by reducing the rate of drug release. Many dose forms have been developed to achieve these aims. They are variously described as 'sustained-release’, ’prolonged-action’, ’timed-release’, or other similar terms. 3, record 30, English, - slow%2Drelease
