There are two broad types of agricultural taxation in developing countries, namely explicit and implicit taxes. Explicit taxes involve charges on land, taxes on inputs such as water, fertilizer, etc., and taxes on output. Income taxes, which belong to the category of explicit taxes, are almost impossible to implement in the context of a country with undeveloped bureaucracy and information system and are rarely used. Implicit taxes involve taxes and/or subsidies of the non-agricultural sector, which change the terms of trade for agriculture. 3, record 11, English, - agricultural%20taxation

2, record 23, French, - ordre%20de%20livraison

Record number: 24, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Geomembrane : The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. The term barrier is usually reserved for the cases where the geomembrane is used inside an earth mass. Geomembrane is a generic term which has been proposed to replace many terms such as : synthetic membranes, polymeric membranes, plastic liners, flexible membrane liners, impermeable membranes and impervious sheets. These terms are not appropriate because :(i) synthetic, polymeric and plastic are too restrictive;(ii) geomembranes are not always used as liners;(iii) flexible membrane is redundant; and(iv) no material is absolutely impermeable or impervious. In addition, many users for these materials habitually designate them with trade names, which adds to the terminology confusion. Geomembranes should not be confused with other similar membranes used for such applications as single-ply roofing, floating covers and air supported roof. Also, geomembranes should not be confused with geotextiles [which are permeable by construction]. 2, record 24, English, - geomembrane

In this interim report, the WG describes its work accomplished to date and its workplan for the remainder of its five year mandate. The WG has undertaken its mandate via the generation of papers which address trade and competition issues in terms of :(i) setting out the contextual framework of the discussion,(ii) the comparison of competition laws, and(iii) specific issues relevant to trade and competition.

Harmonization at the farm gate involves reconciling two radically different approaches in the two countries to attuning the collective concerns with individual pursuit of market imperfection. The Canadian "countervailing market power" model of the Canadian Wheat Board for export grain and supply management for feathers and milk contrasts sharply with the United States model of a "treasury floor" under agricultural terms of trade for cereals and oilseeds and unrestrained contract farming for the industrializing livestock sector. 2, record 82, English, - treasury%20floor

The analysis of transport costs is extended, and 3 possible paradoxes that may arise when the introduction of changes in transport costs affect the terms of trade are delineated : 1. the improvement in the terms of trade for the transport-producing nation may more than offset the adverse welfare implications of a rise in the real(resource) cost of international transportation, 2. a Metzler-like paradox, and 3. a Lerner paradox, where the shipping country's terms of trade might deteriorate and cause a further drop in welfare. 1, record 93, English, - shipping%20country

Despite the fact that in real terms the U. S. current account deficit has improved significantly and the Japanese and German trade surpluses have fallen, the continued deterioration in the U. S. nominal current account balance has been a source of disappointment and confusion to markets. To some extent, the lack of progress in nominal terms was expected, due to the so-called "J-curve" phenomenon, whereby the effect of a depreciation in the U. S. dollar worsens the U. S. terms of trade such that it initially offsets the improving net flow of goods and services in volume terms.
