Helpers are inexperienced people in training positions on seismic crews. After they gain skills and experience, helpers may move to other positions on a crew. Recording helpers, often called jug hustlers, assist seismic observers. In preparation for recording activities, observers may require as many as twenty or more helpers to haul cables, geophones and other recording equipment, and place and connect recording equipment.

Avalanche risk is the probability or chance of harm resulting from interactions between avalanche hazard and a specific element at risk. Avalanche risk is determined by the exposure of that element, and its vulnerability to the avalanche hazard. Avalanche risk is a function of hazard, vulnerability and exposure.

Exposure is about where, and for how long the element at risk is positioned in the terrain. For backcountry travel, the exposure component of risk is the single most important consideration for controlling risk. This is because a person is capable of having complete control over where and when they travel, and is therefore charged with absolute responsibility for his or her own risk. Even during periods of high avalanche hazard, a simple reduction in exposure will reduce the risk.

Vulnerability is a concept that expresses susceptibility to the impacts of avalanche hazard, and it must relate to a specific element at risk. An old growth tree and a person standing side by side will have very different vulnerabilities to the hazard; therefore, while the hazard may be the same, the risk to each of them will be different. The person may be susceptible to Size 2 avalanches, whereas the tree might be susceptible to only a Size 4 – thus, the person has a higher vulnerability and subsequently higher risk.

"Precision Map Image" products have even greater positional accuracy than "Map Image" products. Ground Control Points(GCPs) as well as a map projection are used to spatially align the image. To order a "Precision Map Image" product, ground control points from a map or provided through Global Positional Satellite(GPS) technology are required. LANTIRN consists of a navigation pod and a targeting pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft. The AN/AAQ-13 navigation pod provides high-speed penetration and precision attack on tactical targets at night and in adverse weather. The naviation pod also contains a terrain-following radar and a fixed infrared sensor, which provides a visual cue and input to the aircraft's flight control system, enabling it to maintain a preselected altitude above the terrain and avoid obstacles. This sensor displays an infrared image of the terrain in front of the aircraft, to the pilot, on a head-up display. The navigation pod enables the pilot to fly along the general contour of the terrain at high speed, using mountains, valleys and the cover of darkness to avoid detection.

Erosion control Mattress... the placement of revetment mats on slopes to be protected is one of the methods of erosion control.... The mattress generally consist of double layers of woven fabric forms placed on the slope to be protected and filled with concrete or grout.... this type of forming system is a simple, fast, and economical technique for the placement of concrete for slope protection both above and below the water without the need for dewatering.... For normal installations, the fabric forms, prefabricated to job specifications and dimensions, are simply spread over the terrain, which has received minimal grading. The fabric form is then pumped full of mortar.... This same concept can be used where slide problems are caused by eroding of the toe of the slopes, and where access is difficult for placement of rip-rap.
