Raised peatland swamps occur as raised plateaus, similar to and often transitional to domed bogs, but there is minerotrophic groundwater influence. These are similar to mineral-rise swamps but are elevated by peat and are situated entirely in peatland terrain. 1, record 1, English, - raised%20peatland%20swamp

Surface Roughness. The surface of the ground has a major influence on early season avalanching. Roughness of surface determines the snow depth needed to fill irregularities, controls the amount of creep and significantly affects the ability of the snow to avalanche to the ground in many regions. Generally, the rougher the ground surface the more snow depth is required before avalanching will take place; broken terrain and boulder fields won’t become avalanche slopes until sufficient snow has fallen to cover most of the rocks.... Professional hazard evaluators are using a figure of 30 to 60 cm, depending on location, as the minimum snow depth necessary to cover roughness of ground before natural avalanching occurs. This figure applies to many areas but should not be taken as an infallible rule of thumb. 2, record 2, English, - ground%20roughness

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The aspect angle... can have a significant influence on the appearance of radar imagery, especially when features in the scene have an organized linear structure, such as agricultural crops or geological structures. When a radar's illumination is oriented perpendicular to geologic features such as faults, lineaments and outcrops, [there is] increased contrast and shadowing of the features in the image results. This is a favourable aspect angle for the image interpreter, as terrain is enhanced. In agricultural applications, fields imaged from different aspect angles may result in different tones on the image because of row or planting direction. Aspect angle can cause imaging geometry to be either enhanced or suppressed. 3, record 3, English, - aspect%20angle

This equation ... assumes that the major part of the turbulent transport is dominated by eddies smaller than the distance over which the gradient is measured. Record number: 7, Textual support number: 2 OBS
2, record 7, French, - %C3%A9coulement%20de%20pente
