The World Radiation Data Centre(WRDC) is located in St. Petersburg at the Main Geophysical Observatory of the Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. The WRDC was established in 1964, and... it centrally collects, archives and publishes radiometric data for the world, to ensure the availability of these data for research purposes by the international scientific community.... The WRDC is the central depository of the measured components such as : global, diffuse and direct solar radiation, downward atmospheric radiation, net total and terrestrial surface radiation(upward), spectral radiation components(instantaneous fluxes), and sunshine duration, on hourly, daily or monthly basis. 3, record 1, English, - World%20Radiation%20Data%20Centre

For insolation(incoming solar radiation), clouds absorb rather small fractions, particularly of the shorter wavelengths. Even for depths of clouds of the order of 20, 000 ft, measurements suggest absorptions of less than 30 percent, while layers only one or two thousand feet thick may absorb only about 5 percent. However, for long-wave terrestrial radiation, even very thin layers of cloud act as almost complete black-body absorbers. 2, record 2, English, - cloud%20absorption

The earth's atmosphere is mostly transparent to the incoming solar radiation, and hence the above radiation from the sun is absorbed by the earth surface. The earth's atmosphere in turn absorbs the terrestrial long wave radiation from the earth surface resulting in a situation where the atmosphere is primarily heated from below. This results in a vertical distribution of air temperature, wherein the air temperature decreases with height. 1, record 3, English, - vertical%20distribution%20of%20air%20temperature

1, record 6, Spanish, - balance%20radiativo%20de%20la%20Tierra

The Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer MERIS forms part of the core instrument payload of ESA's environmental research satellite ENVISAT-1. MERIS is funded by ESA. The demands of the European scientific community for a global environmental monitoring system, whose technical characteristics enable the extraction of quantitative information from ocean colour data, as well as for documentation of the state and evolution of the atmosphere and land surfaces, led to the conception of MERIS. The oceanographic mission is radiometrically the most demanding in terms of low radiance levels and their associated high signal-to-noise ratios. The instrument will be capable of detecting the low levels of radiation emerging from the ocean(linked to the water constituents by the processes of absorption and scattering), in addition to acquiring information about the atmospheric medium through which the observation is made as well as terrestrial environments. The characteristics of MERIS will also be of great value for the retrieval of information on land surfaces, in particular that of global biomass. 5, record 7, English, - medium%20resolution%20imaging%20spectrometer%20MERIS

3, record 24, French, - pyrg%C3%A9om%C3%A8tre
