Resistance to RNA viruses in plants has been obtained for many positive-strand RNA viruses. The first case of resistance to a negative strand RNA virus is reported by J. J. L. Gielen et al., "Engineered resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus, a negative-strand RNA virus", Biotechnology 9 : 1363-7. They used insertion of a gene for the viral nucleocapsid protein, an internal RNA binding protein. 2, record 1, English, - negative%20strand%20RNA%20virus

1, record 1, French, - virus%20%C3%A0%20ARN%20de%20polarit%C3%A9%20n%C3%A9gative

In tomato there are bronze, ringlike secondary lesions; plants are stunted with some necrosis; there may be a yellowish mosaic with leaf distortion. Fruits are often marked with concentric rings of pale red, yellow, or white... Transmission [of the virus] is by onion and flower thrips. 2, record 3, English, - tomato%20spotted%20wilt

2, record 3, French, - taches%20bronz%C3%A9es%20de%20la%20tomate
