A tokamak is a toroidal plasma confinement device invented in the 1950s by the Russians Tamm and Sakharov. The word "tokamak" is a contraction of the Russian words :"toroidalnaya", "kamera", and "magnitnaya", meaning "toroidal chamber-magnetic.
