TORQUE ARM [11 records]

Subject field(s)

CONT

… the Szorenyi engine is a rotary engine with potentially better power density than a Wankel [engine] due to the Szorenyi's higher revving rotor. Other advantages of the Szorenyi engine over the Wankel are a larger space inside the rotor for internal cooling of the rotor; four power strokes per rotor revolution; no need for a balancing flywheel in a single rotor engine; and twice the torque moment arm of the Wankel engine.

A wrench that measures and indicates the amount of turning and twisting force applied in tightening a nut or bolt.

CONT

A torque wrench includes a measuring device designed to indicate the twisting force being applied to a nut or bolt in inch-pounds, foot-pounds, or newton-meters(N. m).... torque wrenches [have] different methods for indicating the torque... a pointer which moves across the indicating scale in an amount proportional to the force exerted by the wrench.... a dial gage attached to the wrench and actuated by a spring mechanism within the wrench.... [and] a micrometer-type vernier scale.... If extensions or special attachments are used with torque wrenches, any change in the effective arm of the wrench must be accounted for in computing actual torque being applied.

OBS

An autonomous robotic refuelling system is being developed to achieve rapid aircraft turnaround, notably during combat operations. The proposed system includes a gantry positioner with sufficient reach to position a robotic arm that performs the refuelling tasks; a six degree of freedom manipulator equipped with a remote center of compliance, torque sensor, and a gripper that can handle standard tools; a computer vision system to locate and guide the refuelling nozzle, inspect the nozzle, and avoid collisions; and an operator interface with video and graphics display.

The GRLA robot is usually controlled by an anthropomorphic master arm. This third mechanism is actually another robot, equipped with position and torque sensors and driven by seven hydraulic actuators, like the GRLA slave arm.

DEF

Each of the Lightweight Robot's joint contains three different sensors : a joint torque sensor, a joint position sensor and a motor position sensor. Due to this large number of sensors, it is possible to use progressive control algorithms like impedance control that enable us to control an elastic robot arm. To get a high resolution signal for the joint position, a special joint position sensor has been developed. It measures the absolute joint angle at 0, 01°, is working with optical methods and is equipped with an integrated bearing.

DEF

A viscometer which consists of a spindle rotated in a container of a sample liquid. The principle involved is that the viscosity is directly proportional to the torque required to drive the spindle.

CONT

The principle of the rotation type viscosity measuring element or the rotational spindle type viscosity measuring element is that viscosity of a fluid is directly proportional to the torque produced by the resistance to shearing stress on a spindle rotating in a fluid.

CONT

In the torque viscometer, a sensor (spindle) is rotated at some speed through the same couple arrangement which allows the sensor to be displaced to an equilibrium position at which point the calibrated torque spring gives a reference to the viscosity of the fluid being measured. Different types of spindles and speeds may be used.

CONT

The rotating-vane-type viscosity measuring element depends upon the drag on a rotating member in contact with the material whose viscosity is to be measured. The vane or rotating element is driven by a synchronous electrical motor. The torque required to rotate the member of the vane is measured and is proportional to the viscosity in contact with the rotating element. The synchronous motor drives the cage at a constant speed. The upper spindle arm is coupled to the cage through a calibrated beryllium-copper spring. During measurement, the spring is wound up until its force exactly equals the viscous drag on the spindle; then the cage and spindle continue to operate at the same speed, but with a definite angular relationship to each other proportional to the torque on the spring.

DEF
