The technology of pneumatic impact wrenches is different from that of other portable fastening machines with rotor stalling which operate on the basis of the dynamic stall torque. After a certain movement of the rotor and of the moving masses, all or most of the rotational kinetic energy is transformed in the form of impacts. These impacts are received tangentially on the output shaft, which is not directly mechanically linked with the rotor, thus creating a succession of instantaneous rotational torques of irregular values which are transmitted to the part to be screwed. The number of impacts per revolution would depend on the design of the impact wrench.

Il avait été imaginé un conservateur de cap installé dans une Renault 4L qui stationnait près du bureau de piste. Avant chaque départ en mission la 4L était utilisée pour caler la centrale gyroscopique du Mirage IV au moyen du gyro de transfert prévu à cet effet dans son coffre. Cette solution assez contraignante a été abandonnée lorsqu'il est apparu que le calage manuel de la centrale, avion aligné sur l'axe de piste, était d'une précision suffisante.

The single-axis inertial platform... The angular motions of the controlled member are sensed by the single-axis gyro. The output signal of the gyro is electronically processed and fed to the torque motor(TM) of the stable element and to the torque generator(TG) of the gyro. The problem is to determine how to do the electronic processing so that the controlled member maintains its orientation in spite of disturbances. The directional gyroscope forms a standard reference for the pilot and navigator. It is a three-frame gyroscope with its spin axis in the horizontal plane. As soon as tilt develops, a switch is closed between the gyroscope housing and the vertical gimbal ring and a motor introduces a torque in the horizontal plane that causes the gyroscope to precess back toward the horizontal.

The source of power for the gyro is the engine-driven vacuum pump (or venturi) which sucks air from the rear of the instrument case. This causes air under atmospheric pressure to pass through the filtering system, thence through an air bearing into the hollow vertical gimbal ring. The air then passes through the air nozzle and jets, striking the rotor at a point just above the plane of the horizontal gimbal.

The electronic sensing and control circuitry--the servo feedback control loop--drives the motor to move the shaft to the commanded position. A viscometer which consists of a spindle rotated in a container of a sample liquid. The principle involved is that the viscosity is directly proportional to the torque required to drive the spindle.

The principle of the rotation type viscosity measuring element or the rotational spindle type viscosity measuring element is that viscosity of a fluid is directly proportional to the torque produced by the resistance to shearing stress on a spindle rotating in a fluid.

In the torque viscometer, a sensor (spindle) is rotated at some speed through the same couple arrangement which allows the sensor to be displaced to an equilibrium position at which point the calibrated torque spring gives a reference to the viscosity of the fluid being measured. Different types of spindles and speeds may be used.

CONT

The rotating-vane-type viscosity measuring element depends upon the drag on a rotating member in contact with the material whose viscosity is to be measured. The vane or rotating element is driven by a synchronous electrical motor. The torque required to rotate the member of the vane is measured and is proportional to the viscosity in contact with the rotating element. The synchronous motor drives the cage at a constant speed. The upper spindle arm is coupled to the cage through a calibrated beryllium-copper spring. During measurement, the spring is wound up until its force exactly equals the viscous drag on the spindle; then the cage and spindle continue to operate at the same speed, but with a definite angular relationship to each other proportional to the torque on the spring.
