2, record 1, French, - effet%20de%20matrice

A potential future Mars sample caching mission would acquire surface core samples with a rover and then store the samples in a canister that could be returned to Earth. The samples would likely be stored in individual sample tubes which are sealed. Significant care would be required to minimize contamination of the samples by Earth-source contaminants or by cross-contamination with material from other Mars sampling locations. Additionally, the system of sampling tool, sampling tool deployment device, and sample handling and encapsulation system would need to have minimal mass in order to fit on a small caching rover such as a MER-class rover. Past solutions have been problematic for various reasons including total system mass, sample contamination, or robustness. This problem applies to various potential future Mars Sample Return(MSR) mission architectures for returning samples from Mars to Earth including 1) a sample caching mission followed by a sample return mission where the caching mission rover would acquire and cache samples and a later sample return mission would have a fetch rover that retrieves the sample cache and return it to the landers Mars Ascent Vehicle(MAV) for return to Earth, 2) an Astrobiology Field Laboratory mission with caching which would provide the caching mission function while also including in-situ sample analysis, and 3) a combined sampling and return mission which would combine the sample caching and return to Earth functions. 3, record 15, English, - cache%20rover

Energy spectroscopy. For energy analysis the output current pulse from a PMT [photomultiplier tube] or from a semiconductor detector is often applied to a charge-sensitive preamplifier. The preamplifier produces a voltage pulse with a peak amplitude that is proportional to the total charge in the current pulse, which is proportional to the energy absorbed from the incident radiation. Amplifiers and filters are used to expand the range of the peak amplitude and to shape the signal from the preamplifier, a process that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio for the system. For energy analysis the peak amplitude of the shaped pulse represents the information of interest. Discriminators and single-channel analyzers(SCA) can be used, following the signal shaping system, to determine the presence of certain energies of detected radiation. A discriminator produces an output logic pulse if it's input signal exceeds a preset threshold level. An SCA produces an output logic pulse if the peak amplitude of it's input signal falls within the energy window that is established with two preset threshold levels. 1, record 17, English, - energy%20spectroscopy

The ligation of adapters with primer-specific sites coupled with primers containing selective nucleotides allowed the full potential of PCR to be realized while maintaining the advantages of restriction endonuclease analysis. Fluorescence-based fragment analysis with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis provides the accurate band sizing required for homology assessment. 5, record 24, English, - fluorescent%20amplified%20fragment%20length%20polymorphism

Systems Analysis of a Future Semi-Reusable Launcher, Based on a High Thrust Bleed Cycle Rocket Engine. In this paper a high thrust, cryogenic bleed cycle engine, to be used for propulsion of future reusable booster stages(liquid fly back boosters), of an expendable heavy lift launcher, is analyzed. The system configuration remains unchanged, in terms of total available fuel and the number of engines, hereas the variation of the engine parameters result in a change of total system mass and payload capacity. Different arrangements of bleed cycles are being analyzed, and compared with each other. The paper describes a simplified heat transfer model, used in the analysis of the suggested cycles. The thrust chamber design is discussed and a preliminary design of the booster vehicle, including a trajectory analysis, is presented. 3, record 28, English, - semi%2Dreusable%20launcher

The component scores for each day are computed and the 2873 by 6 data matrix are used in the clustering analysis. To determine the number of clusters that are [used] in the k-means procedure, the pseudo-F and pseudo-T2 statistics are used as guide lines(Davis and Kalkstein, 1990). The pseudo-F statistic describes the ratio of between cluster variance to within cluster variance. Peaks in the pseudo-F statistic are indicators of greater cluster separation. Pseudo-T2 quantifies the difference between the two clusters that are merged at a given step. Thus, if a given cluster(k) solution gives a jump in the pseudo-T2 statistic, than the k+1 cluster solution in selected as the optimal cluster. Any cluster represented with more than 20 percent of the total number of days would then be sub-clustered. 1, record 30, English, - pseudo%2DF%20statistic

The exposure matrix was developed to account for job, plant, and era dependent differences in TCDD [2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin] exposure. The TCDD exposure estimates are based on (1) the concentration of TCDD in micrograms per gram present in process materials; (2) the duration of exposure to TCDD contamination, expressed as a fraction of a work day; and (3) a qualitative contact factor (0.05-1.5) to account for the extent of worker contact with the TCDD contaminated material. These three factors are multiplied together to yield a daily TCDD exposure score. The sum of the daily exposure scores constituted an individual’s cumulative exposure score. Daily TCDD exposure scores range from 0.001 to 1250. Cumulative TCDD exposure scores are distributed from 0.002 to 1,651,611 exposure score days. The TCDD cumulative exposure score, which incorporates both duration and level of exposure, provides a means for ranking workers for evaluating the relationship between TCDD exposure and mortality in a retrospective cohort study analysis. 2, record 38, English, - exposure%20score

The lack of margins in selectivity and the sensitivity of etching rates to other variables such as loading(i. e., the total area to be etched) in plasma etching have made it necessary to develop a positive means of determining the moment etching should stop, rather than relying of fixed times. Most end-point detectors developed to date are based on gas analysis of one sort or another. They determine the instant that either the material being etched has largely disappeared or the material beneath that layer is being attacked. The main energy feeds used in Florida are corn and by-products from the citrus industry. Corn, the standard used for evaluating energy feeds, is grown in limited amounts, causing most feeders to depend upon out-of-state sources for shelled corn and ground snapped corn. By products of the citrus industry are citrus pulp, citrus molasses and a limited amount of citrus meal, with citrus pulp being the most important. Large quantities of citrus pulp are available each year for beef cattle feeding, and on a laboratory analysis basis, it compares favorably with ground snapped corn with respect to TDN(total digestible nutrients). 2, record 47, English, - citrus%20meal

K-Means Cluster Analysis Results. The k-means algorithm is a clustering method which measures the proximity between groups using the Euclidean distance between group centroids. Beginning with an initial selection of k groups, this clustering algorithm allows to locate each respondent within clusters according to his/her distance to the nearest centroid. In total, 10 cluster solutions were tested using the Environics 1995 survey data. A scree plot of the derived proximity measure(in this case the Euclidean distance between group centroids) by the cluster solution is presented in chart 1. 1, record 56, English, - cluster%20solution

Gas chromatography(GC). The use of GCs for detecting organics is rapidly becoming a standard technique in air pollution analysis.... GC systems are reliable, expensive and extremely sensitive.... Commercial GC systems are provided by many companies, and systems by Finnegan, Hewlett-Packard and Varian are among the better known. Commercial ambient monitoring GCs are made by Bendix(8200) and Beckman(6800) and are called Ambient Hydrocarbon Monitors. Total organic content of the air with and without methane is measured with GC-FID systems. 1, record 64, English, - ambient%20hydrocarbon%20monitor

When the actual foundation condition does not meet the assumptions on which the stress chart is based, such as when the load is nonuniform or when the depths are too great for the chart, a reasonably accurate analysis may be had by the use of Saint-Venant's principle. This states that if a load at the surface is replaced by its static equivalent(the same total load and the same action line), the stresses deep down in the mass will not be changed. 1, record 67, English, - Saint%2DVenant%26rsquo%3Bs%20principle
