There are several definitions in the literature of the notion of total angular momentum in general relativity. However, none of them can be said to capture the physical notion of intrinsic angular momentum of the sources in the presence of gravitational radiation. We present a definition of angular momentum for radiative spacetimes which does not suffer from any ambiguity of supertranslations. 1, record 1, English, - intrinsic%20angular%20momentum

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Angular momentum is a vector quantity, requiring the specification of both a magnitude and a direction for its complete description … For a given object or system isolated from external forces, the total angular momentum is a constant, a fact that is known as the law of conservation of angular momentum. A rigid spinning object, for example, continues to spin at a constant rate and with a fixed orientation unless influenced by the application of an external torque.(The rate of change of the angular momentum is, in fact, equal to the applied torque.) 4, record 2, English, - law%20of%20conservation%20of%20angular%20momentum

In the presense of an external magnetic field, the energy levels of atoms are split. This splitting is described well by the Zeeman effect if the splitting is small compared to the energy difference between the unperturbed levels, i. e., for sufficiently weak magnetic fields. This can be visualized with the help of a vector model of total angular momentum. If the magnetic field is large enough, it disrupts the coupling between the orbital and spin angular momenta, resulting in a different pattern of splitting. This effect is called the Paschen-Back effect. 1, record 4, English, - Paschen%2DBack%20effect
