It was noted that total recreational catches recorded in 1992 exceeded the total recreational quota by 13%. The discrepancy between the quota and the actual catch ranged from zero to 23%... Attention was also drawn to the discrepancy between angling catch estimates by traditional methods and catches estimated by the bus route creel survey method on the Humber River in 1992. Catch estimates based on the creel survey suggest that catches were actually twice as high as reported. These results question the utility of traditional catch and effort statistics collection methods in quota monitoring and in evaluating the effect of the closure of the commercial fishery on recreational fisheries harvests.

Ces résultats remettent en question l'utilité des méthodes classiques d'obtention de données statistiques sur les prises et l'effort pour le contrôle des quotas et l'évaluation des effets de la fermeture de la pêche commerciale sur la récolte de la pêche récréative.

This system generally consists of a conical Nytex net(80-µm mesh size) mounted on a stainless steel ring 1. 5 cm in diameter. The ring maintains a net mouth diameter of 1 metre … At the base of the cone is a collection bucket in the form of a short tube with holes in it, lined with Nytex. A net of this size, with a total length of 3 metres, is recommended for samples taken at great depths.

In magnetic surveys, the intensity or strength of the Earth's total magnetic field is measured in nanotesla(nT). Collection of magnetic data by airborne magnetometers permits rapid acquisition of data over large areas. The intensity of the total magnetic field over Canada ranges from about 52 000 to more than 60 000 nT.

The tesla is a large unit for geophysical observations, and a smaller unit, the nanotesla (nT; one nanotesla equals 10-9 tesla), is normally used.

Les levés magnétiques permettent de mesurer l'intensité du champ magnétique total de la Terre en nanoteslas (nT). La collecte de données sur le magnétisme au moyen de magnétomètres aéroportés permet d'acquérir rapidement des données couvrant de grandes étendues. Sur le Canada, l'intensité du champ magnétique total varie d'environ 52 000 à plus de 60 000 nT.

Les unités les plus employées par les constructeurs sont le nanoTesla (10-9 T) correspondant au gamma, le microTesla (10-6 T), le milliTesla (10-3 T) ou le Gauss (10-4 T). Le champ magnétique terrestre varie de 70 000 nT (pôles) à 25 000 nT (équateur). Il était plus «humain» d'utiliser le Gauss, bien adapté à la mesure du champ magnétique terrestre qui fait en gros «un demi Gauss» (pas de nanos ou de micros à manipuler). Mais le système SI [Système international] impose le Tesla.

The Urine Monitoring System(UMS)... provides for the collection, volume measurement, and sampling of urine in microgravity. Measurement of the total volume of urine "voided" by each astronaut is automatically made as the urine enters the system. Each urine sample is then collected and moved to a freezer where it is preserved at-20°C.
