As we start our planning we should keep a few basic design principles in mind. We will, through careful planning, want to improve on the good, bad, and the ugly, logically to create a wonderful garden area. Most professional designers, after years of practice, will apply these principles automatically. The following is a list of a few basics. Unity: This is probably the most important area for the overall plan. A good plan will have unity in all things. This is where we look for all parts to interrelate with each other and also relate to the overall plan. 2, record 1, English, - unity

1, record 1, French, - unit%C3%A9

Because we are more accustomed to recognizing and accepting objects with equally distributed parts on a vertical axis, we identify this visual satisfaction as balance. When both sides of an axis are mirror images of each other, they are in symmetry, a landscape formula used for generations in so-called formal garden layouts. Its opposite is asymmetry(or occult balance) and provides us with the design term "informal". Either can be visually agreeable as long as each is suitable for the total landscape development. 1, record 2, English, - garden%20layout

Distribution of Permafrost.- Permafrost underlies more than 50% of the ground surface of Canada. The two major divisions of permafrost are continuous permafrost and discontinuous permafrost. In the continuous permafrost zone, permafrost occurs everywhere beneath the ground surface except large bodies of water. In the far north, it may be more than 500 m thick. The discontinuous permafrost zone is broken into two other divisions: the widespread permafrost zone, where permafrost underlies 50-90% of the land area, and the sporadic permafrost zone, where it occurs mostly inpeatlands and underlies 10-50% of the land area. 3, record 8, English, - permafrost%20distribution

The most common current wing design is the cantilever. A single large beam, called the main spar, runs through the wing, typically nearer the leading edge at about 25 percent of the total chord. In flight, the wings generate lift, and the wing spars are designed to carry this load through the fuselage to the other wing. To resist fore and aft movement, the wing will usually be fitted with a second smaller drag-spar nearer the trailing edge, tied to the main spar with structural elements or a stressed skin. The wing must also resist twisting forces, done either by a monocoque "D" tube structure forming the leading edge, or by the aforementioned linking two spars in some form of box beam or lattice girder structure. 4, record 13, English, - cantilever%20wing

Systems Analysis of a Future Semi-Reusable Launcher, Based on a High Thrust Bleed Cycle Rocket Engine. In this paper a high thrust, cryogenic bleed cycle engine, to be used for propulsion of future reusable booster stages(liquid fly back boosters), of an expendable heavy lift launcher, is analyzed. The system configuration remains unchanged, in terms of total available fuel and the number of engines, hereas the variation of the engine parameters result in a change of total system mass and payload capacity. Different arrangements of bleed cycles are being analyzed, and compared with each other. The paper describes a simplified heat transfer model, used in the analysis of the suggested cycles. The thrust chamber design is discussed and a preliminary design of the booster vehicle, including a trajectory analysis, is presented. 3, record 17, English, - semi%2Dreusable%20launcher

The calculations for the ISS [International Space Station] quasi-steady acceleration environment can be compared to a set of formal design requirements which state that 50 percent of the ISPR [International Standard Payload Rack] locations within the U. S. Lab, Columbus and the JEM must have quasi-steady accelerations below 1 ug for periods of 30 continuous days a total of 6 times per year. The operation of the Station in Microgravity Mode is designed to produce these 30 day intervals. The quasi-steady acceleration vector has an additional directional stability requirement stating that the component perpendicular to the vector's orbital average must be less than or equal to 0. 2 [mu] g. To meet this requirement the Station's attitude must be controlled during orbit so that it maintains a constant position relative to the LVLH [Local Vertical/Local Horizontal] axes. 2, record 19, English, - quasi%2Dsteady%20acceleration%20environment
Record number: 19, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The quasi-steady state acceleration level is determined primarily by the combined effects of atmospheric drag (due to the finite residual Earth’s atmosphere at the orbital altitude of the ISS), and gravity gradient stabilisation of the ISS. Gravity gradient stabilisation uses the principle that a body in orbit around the Earth will tend to rotate about it’s centre of mass, as each part of the body will tend to follow it’s own orbit. It will normally oscillate about a mean orientation, but will eventually remain in a stable orientation with respect to the Earth. The normal orientation for the ISS is the Torque Equilibrium Attitude discussed earlier. The resultant combination of atmospheric drag, gravity gradient and other secondary effects produce a set of gravity contours (i.e., locations of equal gravity level) which define the quasi-steady state microgravity environment of the ISS. 3, record 19, English, - quasi%2Dsteady%20acceleration%20environment

The structure design is one of the fundamental defining subsystems of the spacecraft, and as such the AMP structure is the baseline structure. This structure presents several challenges to be used on a microsatellite, namely the cost, AIT operations and adaptability to change. Also, the fact that this structure has not flown before, makes it more difficult to predict what are the problems that one might encounter when actually building the spacecraft. On the other hand, this structure allows a generous payload capacity in a low total mass platform. The accommodation study performed, shows that it is possible to fit the mission in the AMP structure... 2, record 23, English, - accommodation%20study

Terminal elevator driers have a wide range of capacities but most vary from 15 to 110 tonnes per hour. Most Canadian terminals have a modest total drying capacity since their use is erratic. Normally driers are located outside the terminal or in many cases are installed in converted large storage bins. Independent handling systems are installed for each of the wet and dry grains. Thus the design of a terminal is affected by the amount of grain drying performed, since the necessary handling systems and surge capacity must be available. 1, record 27, English, - terminal%20elevator%20dryer

2, record 27, French, - s%C3%A9choir%20de%20silo%20terminal

... the Blended-Wing-Body(BWB) concept represents a potential revolution in subsonic transport.... In this study, 800 passenger BWB and conventional airplanes were compared for a 7000 nautical mile design range. ADP-class engines were used with technology levels keyed for a 2015 entry into service(EIS). In every measure, the BWB was found to be superior to the conventional configuration. Key findings for the BWB include : TOGW 15% lower[;] OEW 12% lower [;] Fuel-Burn 28% lower [;] Thrust 27% lower [;] L/D 21% higher [;] DOC 13% lower [. ] The BWB advantage results from a double-deck cabin that extends spanwise as well as lengthwise providing structural and aerodynamic overlap with the wing. This reduces the total wetted area of the airplane and the deep stiff centerbody provides efficient structural wingspan. Relaxed static stability allows optimal span loading, and a trailing-edge high-lift system is not required. Further synergy may be realized through buried engines that ingest the centerbody's boundary layer and thus reduce the effective ram drag. 2, record 29, English, - blended%2Dwing%2Dbody%20project

Airwork Corporation has initiated an industrywide campaign to correct the term "remanufactured" currently being misused as applied to the overhaul of aircraft engines... To qualify as a rebuilt engine, the engine has to meet two tests. One, it must be built to new design limits. Two, it may be rebuilt with either used or new parts, providing they meet drawing tolerances. Engines rebuilt to such high standards are returned to a total time of zero and an entry in the logbook to that effect is required(FAR 91. 175 and FAR 43. 2, b). 1, record 35, English, - rebuilt%20engine

Calculations for cut and fill are often worked out by means of the... contour-planes method. A strict examination of existing grade and proposed grade for a project will indicate the specific cut or fill requirements of a given area of earthwork. Horizontal cross-section volumes are then calculated for each contour interval indicated on the plan. When taken together, these form the total cut or fill volume necessary for the design area. 1, record 40, English, - contour%2Dplanes%20method
