TOTAL DIGESTIBLE NUTRIENT [3 records]

Record 1 2016-10-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Forage Crops
  • Nutritive Elements (Biological Sciences)
CONT

As background to the subject of how MIG [management intensive grazing] can help to stabilize herbage quality, recognize first that the nutritional value of pasture herbage reflects not simply nutrient content and digestibility, measured through such indices as crude protein content(CP) or fractions thereof, acid and neutral detergent fiber(ADF and NDF, respectively), total digestible nutrients(TDN), in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD), and the balance among key micronutrients, but also intake, which would be affected by both preference and accessibility within the standing sward profile.

CONT

The Tribunal qualified Ms. Thompson as an expert in livestock feed evaluation. ["Feed"] refers to substances that include a nutrient and that add energy or other nutrients to an animal’s diet. A "complete feed" is a product that includes nutrients and is ready to eat. Ms. Thompson testified that a "feed supplement" contains nutrients, such as protein, minerals, vitamins and energy, that would balance the animal’s diet.

CONT

The total digestible nutrients include all the organic nutrients - protein, fiber, nitrogen-free extract, and fat (the latter being multiplied by 2.25, because its energy value for animals is approximately 2.25 times that of protein or carbohydrates). The abbreviation T.D.N. is often used for total digestible nutrients.
