TOTAL ENCLOSURE [9 records]

Record 1 2014-08-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fixed Rescue Facilities (fire)
CONT

Total flooding systems. These system protect enclosed, or at least partially enclosed, hazards. A sufficient quantity of extinguishing agent is discharged into the enclosure to provide a uniform fire extinguishing concentration of agent throughout the entire enclosure.

OBS

total flooding system: term standardized by Environment Canada and the Translation Bureau for use in the National Inventory Report.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Installations fixes de secours (incendies)
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Road Design
DEF

A light or heavy structure provided over a road ("covered road") to keep intact some areas of exceptional interest (e.g. parks, historical buildings, etc.).

OBS

total enclosure : term and definition proposed by the World Road Association.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Conception des voies de circulation
DEF

Structure lourde ou légère recouvrant une route («route couverte»), dont le but est de maintenir intact certaines zones d'intérêt exceptionnel (p. ex. parcs, bâtiments historiques, etc.).

OBS

Record 3 2002-04-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Audio Technology
CONT

A ... book-shelf system, Maximus I, manufactured by Goodmans of England, ... is of the acoustic-suspension type, using an air-tight enclosure. ... The efficiency is quite low, so the speaker should be driven with at least a 20-watt amplifier.

OBS

The speaker(s), plus this type of enclosure, may be referred to as the closed-box loudspeaker (system) (cf. JOAUD, 20(10), Dec. 1972, p. 798), enclosed speaker (system) (cf. HIREC, 24(3), 1979, p. 147), or sealed-box speaker (system) (cf. AUDIO, 55(3), 1971, p. 30).

Key term(s)

  • enclosed speaker
  • enclosed loudspeaker
  • sealed box loudspeaker
  • sealed-box speaker

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électroacoustique
DEF

[...] enceinte [qui] est complètement hermétique.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fixed Rescue Facilities (fire)
DEF

Act of filling a volume with an extinguishing medium (gas, high expansion foam) in order that fire may be suppressed within that volume.

OBS

In total flooding systems the carbon dioxide is applied through nozzles designed and located to develop a uniform concentration of carbon dioxide in all parts of the enclosure.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Installations fixes de secours (incendies)
DEF

CONT

Record 7 1991-12-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Building Ventilation
  • Occupational Health and Safety
CONT

Enclosure hoods are designed to enclose the emission source. Examples of enclosure hoods include paint spray booths, laboratory hoods, belt conveyor enclosures, bin or hopper enclosures and abrasive blasting cabinets. These hoods allow contaminants to disperse within the enclosed space, but prevent stray air currents from carrying the contaminant into the work area. The dispersed contaminants are subsequently withdrawn from the enclosure by exhaust ventilation.

OBS

Enclosure hoods can be designed to completely seal the emission source(total enclosure) or to allow access to the interior of the enclosure(partial enclosure). In theory, there is no need for exhaust ventilation in total enclosures.

Record 9 1985-12-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Heating
CONT

Given the factors of degree days, conductance and air change, it is possible to estimate the winter heat loss for a building. The U value per unit area of the enclosure component, multiplied by the area of each component, multiplied by the area of each component and then summed for all components becomes the total building conductance factor. When the total loss through air change is added, the resulting figure is the complete building heat loss factor(b).
