2, record 1, French, - effet%20thermique%20des%20aliments

One of the important aspects determining nutrient requirements is feed intake. If an animal is consuming more total feed per day than normal, the level of nutrients, per unit weight, can be reduced. If the animal is consuming less feed than would normally be the case, then to satisfy the requirements, the nutrient density should be increased. Since the dietary intake is related in many cases to energy content, the nutrient content of the diet will vary depending on energy level. 4, record 15, English, - feed%20intake

Detection efficiency. The intrinsic detection efficiency of any device operated in pulse mode is defined as the probability that a quantum of radiation incident on the detector will produce a recorded pulse. Especially for radiations of low intensity, a high detection efficiency is important to minimize the total time needed to record enough pulses for good statistical accuracy in the measurement. Detection efficiency is further subdivided into two types :total efficiency and peak efficiency. The total efficiency gives the probability that an incident quantum of radiation produces a pulse, regardless of size, from the detector. The peak efficiency is defined as the probability that the quantum will deposit all its initial energy in the detector. Since there are almost always ways in which the quantum may deposit only part of its energy and then escape from the detector, the total efficiency is generally larger than the peak efficiency. 1, record 35, English, - peak%20efficiency

Energy spectroscopy. For energy analysis the output current pulse from a PMT [photomultiplier tube] or from a semiconductor detector is often applied to a charge-sensitive preamplifier. The preamplifier produces a voltage pulse with a peak amplitude that is proportional to the total charge in the current pulse, which is proportional to the energy absorbed from the incident radiation. Amplifiers and filters are used to expand the range of the peak amplitude and to shape the signal from the preamplifier, a process that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio for the system. For energy analysis the peak amplitude of the shaped pulse represents the information of interest. Discriminators and single-channel analyzers(SCA) can be used, following the signal shaping system, to determine the presence of certain energies of detected radiation. A discriminator produces an output logic pulse if it's input signal exceeds a preset threshold level. An SCA produces an output logic pulse if the peak amplitude of it's input signal falls within the energy window that is established with two preset threshold levels. 1, record 36, English, - energy%20spectroscopy

When considering the energy consumption of a household, home appliances account for a large portion of energy usage. The energy consumption of a typical household includes lighting, cooling and heating, and home appliances. While the total energy consumption of home appliances is typically less than lighting and temperature control in a year's time, many household appliances use a significant amount of energy. The two most energy-consuming home appliances are the refrigerator and the clothes dryer. The refrigerator is always on although it consumes the most energy when the compressor cycles on to maintain the proper temperatures. Clothes dryers do not remain on, but when they are in use they consume a lot of energy. Though energy costs and types vary by location and type of dryer, the typical clothes dryer averages $85. 00 US Dollars(USD) annually to operate. Other high-energy usage household appliances include ovens, microwaves, water heaters, automatic dishwashers and stove tops. Generally, the home appliances that are used to create heat(or in the refrigerator's case remove heat) use the most energy. Smaller home appliances including coffee pots, toasters, and fans consume less energy overall, but the actual usage of any appliance depends greatly on its frequency of use. 3, record 41, English, - high%20energy%2Dconsuming

The Fire Radiative Power product(FRP, in megawatts) provides information on the measured radiant heat output of detected fires. It has been demonstrated in small-scale experimental fires that the amount of radiant heat energy liberated per unit time(the Fire Radiative Power) is related to the rate at which fuel is being consumed. This is a direct result of the combustion process, whereby carbon-based fuel is oxidised to CO2 with the release of a certain "heat yield. "Therefore, measuring this FRP and integrating it over the lifetime of the fire provides an estimate of the total Fire Radiative Energy(FRE), which for wildfires should be proportional to the total mass of fuel biomass combusted. 1, record 43, English, - fire%20radiative%20power

1, record 50, French, - cycle%20du%20combustible%20ferm%C3%A9

Elastic scattering of neutrons by nuclei can occur in two ways. The more usual of the two interactions is the absorption of the neutron, forming a compound nucleus, followed by the re-emission of a neutron in such a way that the total kinetic energy is conserved and nucleus returns to its ground state. This is known as resonance elastic scattering(a collision where a nucleus absorbs a neutron and re-emits it, conserving kinetic energy). 1, record 51, English, - resonance%20elastic%20scattering

In the presense of an external magnetic field, the energy levels of atoms are split. This splitting is described well by the Zeeman effect if the splitting is small compared to the energy difference between the unperturbed levels, i. e., for sufficiently weak magnetic fields. This can be visualized with the help of a vector model of total angular momentum. If the magnetic field is large enough, it disrupts the coupling between the orbital and spin angular momenta, resulting in a different pattern of splitting. This effect is called the Paschen-Back effect. 1, record 52, English, - Paschen%2DBack%20effect

A typical multi-head breaker is a rubber-tired, self-propelled unit which carries 1, 000 to 1, 500 pound hammers mounted laterally in pairs. Half of the hammers are in a forward row and the remainder diagonally offset in a rear row so that there is continuous breakage from side to side. Each pair of hammers is attached to a hydraulic lift cylinder which operates as an independent unit. Each unit can develop between 1, 000 and 8, 000 foot pounds of energy depending upon drop height selected. The units can cycle at a rate of 30 to 35 impacts per minute. The typical machine is eight foot wide and carries twelve hammers eight inches in width. An extension wing, carrying two 1, 500 pound hammers, can be added to each side for a total breaking width of up to 13 feet. Pavement breaking can be as narrow as 2. 67 feet or increased in increments up to 13 feet. A portion of the sunlight that reaches Earth is absorbed into the system, while some of the light is reflected by our planet back into space. The term "net radiation" refers to the total amount of sunlight and heat energy that does not escape from the top of the Earth's atmosphere back into space. More precisely, net radiation is the sum total of shortwave and longwave electromagnetic energy, at wavelengths ranging from 0. 3 to 100 micrometers, that remains in the Earth system. 11, record 78, English, - radiation%20balance

The total emissive power... is the total thermal radiation energy emitted by a surface element into the entire volume above the surface per unit time per unit area(emissive power, radiant flux density).... In the study of real surfaces it is convenient to define an ideal surface. The ideal surface is called a black surface or a black body, where all energy incident upon the body is absorbed, regardless of direction, wavelength or any often identifiable energy characteristic. Since, all energy is absorbed a=1, r=0, t=0. A perfect absorber is also a perfect emitter. So, the emissive power of a black body is only a function of temperature. 1, record 87, English, - total%20emissive%20power

Coupling is brought about when an enzyme causes a substrate that is to be consumed... to react with one of the cell' s small-molecule energy donors(say, ATP) to give rise to an energized activated substrate molecule. The subsequent decomposition of this activated substrate in the synthetic reaction will release significant energy, which will result in the synthetic reaction.... The need for cells to carry on simultaneously many different coupled reactions requires cells to devote a significant part of their total metabolic activity to the constant replenishment of their ATP supply. In animal cells and in most bacteria, the formation of ATP is coupled with the breakdown of food molecules that are even more rich in energy. In cells that carry out photosynthesis, the energy of sunlight is used directly to make ATP. 3, record 94, English, - coupled%20reaction

Kinetic energy kill systems can either be of the rocket-propelled missile type, or of the hypervelocity gun system. The High Frontier study sees the deployment of carrier satellites with conventional missiles as a practical proposition. The total mass of such a system precludes comprehensive deployment. A more promising area for research into kinetic energy kill systems is to be the hypervelocity electromagnetic railgun. This system uses a high energy electromagnetic field to accelerate a hit-to-kill projectile to speed of the order of 5-25 km per second. Again, the power requirements for such a system are prodigious, and are likely to need nuclear generators. 2, record 97, English, - hypervelocity%20electromagnetic%20railgun

The refrigerator is the single biggest power guzzler in most households. A typical refrigerator made around 1990, uses more than 900 kilowatt hours per year - that’s the same amount of energy you would use by leaving a 1,250 watt hairdryer on for a month! And the older your refrigerator is, the more power it burns. 1, record 99, English, - power%20guzzler

The total water potential, which describes the energy of the water contained in the plant can be estimated from leaf water potential(LWP) measurements, by the use of the pressure bomb in salinity studies. The major components of LWP are leaf osmotic potential(LOP) and leaf turgor potential(LTP). Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential can be measured directly by the use of the pressure bomb and the vapor pressure osmometer, respectively. The LTP can be estimated by the equation LTP=LWP-LOP. 2, record 100, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential were measured on the same leaves. Both parameters were measured on leaf discs by the thermocouple psychrometric method ... The osmotic potential was measured after the sample (leaf disc) had been frozen over dry ice, thawed, and macerated with a small glass rod. The sap extract was then immediately placed on a filter paper disc in the C-52 sample chamber and its value of osmotic potential determined (Turner, 1981). 3, record 100, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

The leaf cells contain various organic and inorganic solutes, which determine the leaf osmotic potential (OP). OP is generally lower (more negative) than LWP and the difference between the two is turgor potential. Turgor is lost (null value) when LWP=OP ... 4, record 100, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

3, record 100, French, - potentiel%20osmotique%20foliaire
