TRACE WINDOW [3 records]

Record 1 2020-07-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
  • Climate Change
CONT

The direct radiative effects of trace gases in the atmosphere are primarily due to their absorption in the infrared part of the spectrum. Most effective in this regard are gases with absorption in the parts of the spectrum where water vapour and CO2 are almost transparent(8-13 [micrometers]), the atmospheric window. If absorption bands for different gases overlap, the effects of a changing concentration on the radiative transfer are reduced. Gases with no change in their abundance do not directly contribute to a climatic change, but may affect the magnitude of the role of other constituents due to such overlapping of absorption bands.

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
  • Changements climatiques
CONT

DEF

A record of all steps performed.

CONT

With Algebraland(Foss et al. 1987) the student can perform the operation or ask the system to do it. He/she can expand expressions, add to both sides, subtract from both sides, or divide by both sides simply by asking the machine. Every action is seen in a trace window.

Radiative Effects: The range of radiative characteristics (extinction coefficient, scattering coefficient and volume scattering phase function) is reasonably well known both from measurements and theoretical analysis.
