Truck hunting is wheel set oscillation caused by the dynamic response of a railway car truck when operating above certain speeds. The truck oscillates between the rails with hard flange contact occurring at regular intervals of 30 to 50 feet. Truck hunting occurs on tangent track and is more severe where the track is stiff and where CWR [continuous welded rail] is laid. It normally does not begin until around 45 to 50 mph in the case of cars with worn wheels, and 55 to 60 mph for cars with new wheels.

This shovel is widely used for stone loading. Various models are available to meet particular conditions of track gage, mine car size or headroom available. The loading bucket, mounted on a rocker arm, is pushed forward into the pile of debris; the rocker arm is then actuated to swing the loaded bucket over the rocker carriage and to deliver the bucket load into a mine car or, in the case of one of the models, on to a variable-speed belt conveyor which in turn delivers into the mine car. The machines operate on a rail track and, swivelling on the carriage, can sweep across the width of the heading. On raising the bucket for discharge, the device is self-centering.

(...) La chargeuse travaille sur rails, mais ceux-ci, posés avant le tir, s'arrêtent à 2 m du front. Pour prendre tout le tas, la chargeuse doit avancer au-delà des rails.

Sur le fond AB de (...) [la] caisse, peut rouler sans glissement un berceau ab solidaire du godet V; la longueur de la courbe ab est exactement la même que celle de la droite AB; de sorte que, par roulement, le berceau ab vient occuper la position opposée a[prime] b[prime]. La position du berceau au chargement est ab. Il suffit alors de faire avancer la chargeuse sur les rails pour que le godet se remplisse. Au contraire, a[prime] b[prime] correspond au remplissage de la berline dans laquelle le godet se vide. Le mouvement de roulement est obtenu par le treuil T sur lequel s'enroule une chaîne passant sur la poulie de contrainte p et aboutissant au berceau en C. Dans la position de déchargement, C occupe la position C[prime]. Le godet revient ensuite à sa position de chargement, la rotation du treuil étant inversée et la pesanteur aidant.
