You might plant native grasses to restore a natural area or extract eggs in a fish hatchery.

Subject field(s)
  • Stock Exchange
  • Investment
CONT

Passive management means investing in securities that replicate the performance of a specific market index. Passive management rests on the principle that markets are efficient, and security selection and asset mix timing strategies cannot consistently beat market indices. This management style involves lower investment fees, few surprises in terms of relative performance and simplified monitoring.

OBS

[Indexed management] differs from active investment management in that the investment decisions do not rely on investment managers, strategies, stock selection or market timing. Instead, the portfolio seeks to emulate-or track-either a market index, or a specifically designed index. Indexed management is also called passive fund management or index tracking fund management.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Bourse
  • Investissements et placements
DEF

DEF

A function of certain word processing programs that allows the user to add or to delete space between a particular pair of characters based on the final appearance of the text once track kerning is finished.

CONT

JustText also supports track and manual kerning. Track kerning, which controls the amount of space between all letters in a block of text, can radically alter the readability of a block of text. While the decisions made by the original typographer are probably the right ones, particular users may want to add space for their own purposes. JustText also offers a manual kerning facility that allows the user to take out space between a particular pair of letters based on the final appearance of the work.

CONT

The pedagogical model, associated with the pedagogical control component, keeps a record of the global strategic decisions and resulting contexts. An example of a pedagogical model is the QUADRATIC tutor's database of assertions, which keeps track of the success of pedagogical strategies and of the expected effects of modifying those strategies.

CONT

... the role of the pedagogical model is to simulate the teacher’s behaviour by providing advices and explanations according to the student’s knowledge level and to his plan.

CONT

The pedagogical model is intended to provide guide-lines (especially indications about a fruitful reasoning line when the student is confused) and explanations (the reasons for a student’s error). In order to generate advices, the pedagogical model looks for information in the other two models [domain model and student model].

CONT

Observations of human teachers who interleave opportunistic and plan-based styles have led a number of researchers to suggest the need for some sort of internal "agenda", which would keep track of active subgoals and emergent goals and provide a complex triggering context for didactic operations(Collins et al., 1975b; Collins and Stevens, 1982; Leinhardt and Greeno, 1986). The triggering context, of course, provides important constraints and resources by focusing didactic operations on recognized opportunities or prevailing plans. However, there are additional considerations on which to base decisions, and this section identifies three potential sources of both constraints and resources for systems : didactic, domain-specific, and diagnostic information.

CONT

The process model of most existing system is mainly used to follow the student and to trigger the presentation of prefabricated interventions, rather than to generate explanations.
