Whereas RADARSAT-1 is a solely right-looking system, RADARSAT-2 will be outfitted with an antenna that can be steered electronically to acquire images to either the right or the left of the sub-satellite track... The switch from one look direction to the other is specified to take less than 10 minutes, that is, about one tenth of the time required to complete one full orbit. Although the look direction switching is an operational feature, the right-looking configuration is regarded as the default mode of operation. Hence, it is expected that about 75% of the imaging will be performed in this particular mode. RADARSAT-2, Canada's next generation earth observation satellite, is co-funded by the Canadian Space Agency(CSA) and MacDonald Dettwiler... The imaging sensor on the satellite is a C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) capable of operating in a wide variety of imaging modes. All imaging modes of the current RADARSAT-1 satellite will be provided, as well as some new modes that incorporate important innovations and improvements. The horizontal co-polarization(HH) of RADARSAT-1 will be supplemented by options for vertical co-polarization(VV) and cross-polarization(HV or VH), and there will be new Quad-Polarization modes providing fully polarimetric data sets. The other major new mode is referred to as Ultra-Fine, providing swath imaging with resolution of about 3 m in each dimension. Re-visit times will be reduced since all imaging modes will be available either to the left or right sides of the satellite track. 3, record 8, English, - imaging%20sensor

The mission will provide high-resolution radar altimeter measurements over the margins of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets as well as over smaller ice bodies throughout the world. For this purpose, the main payload of the satellite is a new type of radar altimeter that combines several modes of operation : a classical pulse-limited mode; synthetic aperture processing for enhanced along track spatial resolution over sea ice; and interferometric processing with two receiving antennas to acquire across-track measurements over steeply sloping terrain. 2, record 20, English, - pulse%2Dlimited%20mode

V-bar : Flight Director Indicator... The V-bar command indicator is a pair of yellow, wedge-shaped V-bars that move up or down to command a climb or descent, and roll left or right to command a bank. The flight director system commands the V-bars to capture and track the selected heading or radio signals; or to maintain a desired pitch angle, glidepath, or an optimum speed during SC(speed command) operation. To satisfy the commands, the aircraft is maneuvered so that the airplane symbol is flown into the V-bars until the two are aligned. Input signals to the V-bars depend upon the mode of operation. The V-bars are biased from view by the instrument failure warning system; when loss of signal occurs, or sensing circuits fail that are associated with the selected mode of operation.
