The Animal Biotechnology Unit(ABU) of the Animal Health and Production Division, Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA) is responsible for establishing animal health standards and augmenting regulatory controls for the development of biotechnology-derived animals. The current mandate of the Animal Biotechnology Unit is to evaluate the assisted reproductive technologies used in livestock production(for example animal cloning, transgenic animal production or other genetic manipulations) with a focus on animal health and welfare.

L'Unité de biotechnologie animale (UBA) de la Division de la santé des animaux et de l'élevage, Agence canadienne d'inspection des aliments (ACIA) est responsable de l'établissement de normes en matière de santé des animaux et du resserrement des mesures réglementaires touchant la production d'animaux issus de la biotechnologie. Elle a pour mandat actuel d'évaluer les techniques de reproduction assistée utilisées en élevage (le clonage, la production d'animaux transgéniques et les autres manipulations génétiques, par exemple) en insistant particulièrement sur la santé et le bien-être des animaux.
