Some of the most beautiful butterflies belong to the family Papilionidae; these are familiar to most people, although only few species are represented in Europe. Even in the tropics there are not a great number of species. These tropical forms, with their extraordinarily brilliant coloration, are among the most decorative objects in nature. Most of the swallowtail species belong to the genus "Papilio"; their hindwings are usually elaborated to form tails. The common European swallowtail is "Papilio machaon"... In the U. S. A. the "tiger swallowtail"(Papilio glaucus) is best known. 2, record 15, English, - swallowtails

The stratosphere is characterized by constant or increasing temperatures with increasing height and marked vertical stability. It owes its existence to heating of ozone by solar ultraviolet radiation, and its temperature varies from 85°C or less near the tropical tropopause to roughly 0°C at the stratopause. While the major constituents of the stratosphere are molecular nitrogen and oxygen, just as in the troposphere, the stratosphere contains a number of minor chemical species that result from photochemical reactions in the intense ultraviolet radiation environment. Chief among these is ozone, the presence of which shelters the underlying atmosphere and the earth's surface from exposure to potentially dangerous ultraviolet radiation. 2, record 32, English, - stratosphere

One of the three main forest types in the world. Temperate forests are composed mainly of deciduous trees. The other two types are the tropical evergreen forest and the northern coniferous forest (boreal forest). 2, record 53, English, - temperate%20forest
Record number: 53, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Temperate forests occur within the temperate, non-tropical zone. Temperate forests occur north of the Tropic of Cancer and south of the Tropic of Capricorn. Temperate forests usually have fairly distributed rainfall and moderate temperatures, in contrast to tropical forests which generally experience extremes in rainfall and high temperature.... There are a number of different types of temperate forest. These include :(i) the largely coniferous boreal forests which flourish in the far north containing species such as cypress, cork oak, and stone pine, which grow on the shores and islands of the Mediterranean; and(iii) austral forests, which grow in New Zealand, Southern Australia, South Africa, and the Patagonia region of South America. 3, record 53, English, - temperate%20forest
