TUBE DRAWING [19 records]

Record 1 2015-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Medical and Surgical Equipment
CONT

The drawing apparatus does not project an image originating from the microscope, it rather adds an external image, that of the drawing, to the one normally observed in the microscope eyepiece.... The drawing attachment described here fits easily between the binocular tube and the tube support of a Wild compound microscope. It is a tubular piece, protruding horizontally to the left or the right hand of the observer.... Similar "drawing tubes" for camera lucida viewing with stereomicroscopes are also available. Because each ocular in the stereomicroscope produces an image of the specimen from a different angle, both images together give the impression of 3D-vision, but obviously, the drawing picked up from the drawing tube can be superimposed with only one of the two members of the stereopair.

DEF

Structural shape. General term applied to rolled flanged shapes, having at least one dimension of their cross-section 76 mm (3 inches) or greater, which are used in the construction of bridges, buildings, ships, railroad rolling stock and for numerous other constructional purposes.

DEF

Profile. A product of uniform cross-section along its whole length, with a cross-section other than rod, bar, wire, tube, sheet or strip, supplied in straight lengths or in coiled form. According to the form of its cross-section, it is called :-hollow profile : the cross-section other than tube enclosing one or more complete voids;-solid profile : the cross-section does not enclose any complete void. The cross-sections are formed by extruding, rolling, roll-forming, or drawing, either exclusively or in combination.

OBS

In the past the terms, "shapes" and "sections" were used synonymously. The American Institute of Steel Construction and the producers have now adopted "shapes" as the standard designation.

DEF

CONT

The Vacutainer needle is pointed at both ends, with one end shorter than the other. The long end of the needle is used for insertion into the vein, the shorter end is used to pierce the rubber stopper of the vacuum tube and usually is covered by a rubber sheath. The sheath makes it possible to draw several tubes of blood by preventing leakage of blood as tubes are changed, this is called a multi-draw needle. If the short end is not covered with a rubber sheath, it is a single sample needle and only one tube of blood can be collected.

CONT

Vacutainer System. The combination of a Vacutainer holder, needle and sample tube which allows for a more automated method of drawing blood. When a multi-sample needle is used the system will allow for the aspiration of any number of sample tubes with only one venipuncture.

DEF

A passage for conveying flame and hot gases around or through water in a steam boiler.

CONT

Steel boilers are fabricated into one assembly of a given size and rating, usually by welding. The heat exchange surface past the firebox usually is an assembly of vertical, horizontal, or slanted tubes. The tubes may be firetube (flue gas inside, heated fluid outside) or watertube (fluid inside).

CONT

The firing tubes are copper clad on the water side. The 2 in. OD by number 13 gauge tubes are formed by telescoping a. 030 in. hard phosphorized copper tube over a. 065 in. seamless steel tube and drawing over a mandrel and through a die for a tight bond. Long tube life is positively assured under the most aggressive conditions.

Multi-stage liquid impinger. ... for the separation of particles according to their deposition sites in the respiratory system. The fractions are collected gently into liquid where clumps separate into viable units.

CONT

The AGI-30 sampler is a high-velocity liquid impinger widely used for air sample collection. [It] operates by drawing aerosols at a flow rate of 12. 3-12. 6 L/min through an inlet tube curved to simulate the nasal passage. In contrast to impaction of bioaerosols onto agar, impingers may give higher bacterial counts in environments where bacteria are carried as aggregates, mainly because bacterial clusters are broken up.

CONT

SCP-1021. A two stage collector/concentration design ... The particle enriched, ... air stream is directed to a liquid impactor which is an integral component of the sampler. The impactor, containing 40 ml of liquid, retains particles which are aerodynamically 2.5 microns or larger in diameter.

The Piercing-sucking type [insect]. Specialized mouth parts characterized by a tubular, usually jointed beak, enclosing several needle-like stylets. The outer tube is formed by the labium, which is simply a protective structure for the other parts and has nothing to do with piercing the tissues or drawing up the liquid food. The mandibles and maxillae, sometimes supplemented by or replaced by the labrum-epipharynx and hypopharynx, are greatly elongated and slender structures, which serve for piercing the skin of an animal or the epidermis of a plant, and also as the food channel, i. e., an inner tube up which the liquid blood or sap in drawn.
