Electronic pocket dosimeter.... Small, light-weight portable radiation measurement apparatus provides accurate quantitative measurement of radiation dosage and dosage rates. Such apparatus, referred to as a dosimeter, is housed in a ruggedized housing that is only about 1/2 the volume of a package of cigarettes, may easily be clipped to clothing or carried in a shirt pocket, and is powered by a conventional alkaline AA-sized battery. Included in the housing are a geiger tube for detecting radiation, a high voltage power supply for providing power to the geiger tube, a counting circuit for counting geiger pulses generated by the geiger tube, a microprocessor circuit for processing the geiger pulses in accordance with a prescribed program to determine the dose or dosage rate to which the geiger tube has been exposed, and a digital display that displays the dosage rates thus determined.

A molecular device capable of converting energy into movement and able to generate forces on the order of piconewtons.

The nanomotor has a positioning stroke up to some centimeters while operating with atomic resolution and thus builds a bridge over eight orders of magnitude. The nanomotor is a piezo driven linear motor consisting of a cylindrical housing and a slider with a free axial hole inside. It utilizes a piezo tube for fine positioning and a pulse wave produced by the same piezo tube for coarse movements. Every point of its stroke can be reached with a speed of up to 5 mm/s. In its free axial hole the nanomotor can transport a tip, a hose, an electrode, a hypodermic needle, a glass fiber or even a microgripper. The nanomotor is available in three different versions. The "small" nanomotor is half the size of a match stick. It can lift six times of its own mass. The dynamic force of this nanomotor is so high, that even imprints in diamond surfaces can be produced. Special versions of the nanomotor can operate in ultra high vacuum, in liquid helium, even under water or as non-magnetic drives.

Electrostatic deflection of the beam in two directions for scanning is obtained by mean of two mutually perpendicular pairs of plates (electrodes) or by means of a magnetic deflecting coil.

Picture tubes use magnetic deflection, therefore, with two pairs of deflection coils in the yoke housing on the neck of the picture tube. The associated magnetic field of sawtooth current in the deflection coils moves the electron beam horizontally and vertically to scan the raster.

Layer Housing. Small laying flocks are generally floor housed or allowed to range rather than kept in cages.... Housing requirements for floor and free-range layers are simple and easy to arrange on most small family farms. Provide hens with 3 square feet of floor space per bird. Protect them from adverse weather conditions and predators. The structure must also protect feeders and be suitable for nests and a roost. Tube feeders and an automatic waterer are recommended for floor layers.
