Hydroformed components from low-carbon steel tubes have become more common in doday's vehicles, especially in truck frames and engine cradles. In addition to reducing the weight of a vehicle tube hydroforming allows for increased strength and stiffness, parts consolidation, and cost reduction. 2, record 1, English, - hydroforming

3, record 1, French, - hydroformage

Device enabling a larger surface area to be obtained without making large and unwieldy stacks of flat membrane. One only has to mould the membrane into a tube and then incorporate a number of such membrane tubes into a cartridge; liquid can then be recirculated through the cartridge and sufficient pressure for ultra-filtration obtained by restricting the flow downstream of the cartridge. In some systems the membrane may be moulded round a plastic rod which is grooved to produce a thin channel effect; it has been suggested that this is more efficient in reducing concentration polarization than a hollow membrane tube. The cartridge system has been used in various large-scale units with membrane areas of up to several square feet. 2, record 6, English, - cartridge%20membrane

Following the uproar that greeted proposals in the sixties and seventies to build a freeway along the left bank of the Seine, Paris found its solution in going underground. Paris now has built or is building over 100 kilometers of high speed limited access underground roads that speed traffic under Paris along routes traffic could never follow above ground. 2, record 7, English, - underground%20traffic%20road

... speed limits will be 45 miles per hour... as opoosed to the 55-and 65-mile-per-hour limits on other parts of the interstate highway system. Also, traffic will go in only one direction in each tube, reducing the risk of head-on collisions. And a system of height detectors and cameras will help highway operators to spot trucks that are too large or carrying hazardous materials before they reach the tunnels. No hazardous materials will be allowed in the subterranean roads. 3, record 7, English, - underground%20traffic%20road

3, record 7, French, - voie%20souterraine

Closed circuit SCBA... Compressed or liquid oxygen type. Equipped with a facepiece or mouthpiece and nose clamp. High-pressure oxygen from a gas cylinder passes through a high-pressure reducing valve and, in some designs, through a low-pressure admission valve to a breathing bag or container. Liquid oxygen is converted to low-pressure gaseous oxygen and delivered to the breathing bag. The wearer inhales from the bag, through a corrugated tube connected to a mouthpiece or facepiece and a one-way check valve. Exhaled air passes through another check valve and tube into a container of carbon-dioxide removing chemical and reenters the breathing bag. Make-up oxygen enters the bag continuously or as the bag deflates sufficiently to actuate an admission valve. 2, record 8, English, - breathing%20bag

Record number: 9, Textual support number: 2 OBS
Horns were first applied to earmolds in the late 1950s in the "Acoustic Modifier"--a short-canal, wide-bore mold. Enlarging a sound bore will enhance high frequencies passing through it; reducing it will reduce the high frequency components. The key to horn theory involved the change in bore diameter, not its shape. With the extended high frequency range of many of today's hearing aids, a horn of some type should be employed to preserve the performance and achieve a successful fitting. Probably the most popular style is the Libby Horn--a tapered, one-piece sound tube which is replaceable in the dispenser's office. 2, record 9, English, - earmold%20with%20Libby%20horn
