TWISTED PAIR [21 records]

Record 1 2017-12-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telephone Wires and Cables
DEF

A cable network architecture wherein optical fibres radiate outwards from the head end or a point on a fibre-ring(a "node") to local networks serving a neighbourhood or subdivision. This is similar to the "switched-star" architecture of telephone systems-however, in the telephone case, each wire(twisted pair) serves an individual subscriber.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Câbles et fils téléphoniques
DEF

DEF

A system bringing fiber optic cables and telecommunications services to residential subscriber premises.

CONT

Fiber to the home (FTTH) is a fiber optic communication delivery form where the fiber extends from a central office to the boundary of a home living space or business office. Once it reaches the home or business office, the signal is conveyed throughout the space using coaxial cable, wireless, optical fibers or power line communication.

OBS

The main benefit of fiber to the home is providing faster connection speeds and higher carrying capacity than twisted pair conductors, coaxial cable, or digital subscriber line(DSL).

CONT

Fiber to the curb(FTTC) is a telecommunications system based on fiber-optic cables run to a platform that serves several customers. Each of these customers has a connection to this platform via coaxial cable or twisted pair. The "curb" is an abstraction and can just as easily mean a pole-mounted device or communications closet or shed. Typically any system terminating fiber within 1, 000 ft(300 m) of the customer premises equipment would be described as FTTC.

CONT

FTTB(fiber to the building...) is a form of fiber-optic communication delivery that necessarily applies only to those properties that contain multiple living or working spaces. The optical fiber terminates before actually reaching the subscribers living or working space itself, but does extend to the property containing that living or working space. The signal is conveyed the final distance using any non-optical means, including twisted pair, coaxial cable, wireless, or power line communication.
