A general term indicating a class of papers of characteristic gauze texture, in some cases fairly transparent, that includes sanitary products, wrapping material, waxing tissue stock, twisting tissue stock, fruit and vegetable wrapping tissue stock, pattern tissue stock, sales-book tissue stock, and creped wadding. They are made on any type of paper machine, from any type of pulp including reclaimed paper stock. They may be glazed, unglazed, or creped.

On appelle «papiers minces» une grande variété de papiers de faible grammage. Les papiers minces à usage sanitaire englobent les serviettes de démaquillage, le papier hygiénique, les essuie-tout et les serviettes de table. Les papiers minces à usage industriel sont : le papier condensateur, le support du papier carbone et le papier mousseline. Le grammage des papiers minces les plus légers est de l'ordre de 5g/m².

En anglais, «tissue» comprend les papiers minces 12 à 24 g/m², généralement faits sur machine Yankee et destinés à remplacer les textiles manufacturés. - Mouchoirs, serviettes à démaquiller [...] - Serviettes de table [...] - Papiers hygiéniques [...] Essuyage main [...] - Couches bébé et Garnitures périodiques [...]
