Extrusion pelleting allows the manufacture of pellets with a greater range of physical and nutritional properties than does steam pelleting. Steam pelleting produces dense pellets that sink quite rapidly. The ingredients are finely ground, mixed, cooked briefly... with steam under pressure to raise the temperature to 70–95°C and the moisture to 15–18%, compressed and forced through a die. The pellets are cut, cooled, dried and may be top-dressed with oil.

A stability test in which a person, usually on skis or a snowboard, loads a large blocks of the snowpack in stages.

If you use a snow saw which mounts on the end of an avalanche probe ski pole you can cut the block in under a minute... The Rutschblock test(shear block) and it's cousin the Rutschkiel test(pronounced Rootch-kyle) have rapidly become the standard snowpit test of choice for avalanche professional who do a lot of snowpits... First, on a slope of at least 30 degrees, isolate a block of snow about a ski length across, and a ski pole length up the slope(2 meters wide by 1. 5 meters upslope). If you use a snow saw which mounts on the end of an avalanche probe ski pole you can cut the block in under a minute... Next, simply step onto the block with your skis or snowboard on and jump progressively harder until the block fails.

Drip Irrigation.... Water is delivered in small quantities under low pressure directly to... the root zone of the plants. You’ll need 1/2 inch polyethylene header pipe, and a roll of thin tape-like porous tubing. The header pipe connects to a garden hose and routes water through the garden. The pipe is placed either down the center or along one end of the garden. Small puncture holes are then made with a screwdriver into the header pipe at intervals corresponding to garden row. Eight-to ten-inch pieces of rubber connecting hose are then inserted into these holes. The other end of the connecting hose attaches to a length of porous tape. This tape is rolled out along each vegetable bed and cut to the same length as the row. Then end of the tape is then crimped to prevent water loss when the system is in use. Porous irrigation tape is best placed about three to four inches away from the base of the plants.

for "saw cut veneer" : Veneers are cut in two grades or thicknesses, known as saw cut and knife cut. The first named are the thickest, and vary in thickness from 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch. They are cut from the log with a large circular saw, and usually yield about 12 sheets to the inch. Knife cut veneers are much thinner, modern machines making it possible to get from 50 to 100 sheets to the inch, the very thin ones being used as picture mounts. These are cut with rotary and flat knives. In saw cutting the log is well steamed and placed between two stocks, like a leg in a lathe, and under a knife for its whole length. The log is now forced round and against the knife which drops the required thickness at each revolution. By cutting spirally the grain is accentuated and enlarged.
