Anodic stripping voltammetry is a method to demonstrate the presence of multiple metals in water. This method is usually applied to investigate the water quality of surface or drinking water or sewage.

Anodic stripping voltammetry(ASV) is the most common of a class of techniques known as stripping electroanalytical methods(SEAM). The defining characteristic of these methods is the preconcentration of analyte at the electrode surface in order to lower the detection limit for that analyte.... Usually a mercury drop or mercury thin-film electrode is employed under forced convective conditions(stirred solution). The preconcentration step is followed by a short time period in which the solution is allowed to quiet(no stirring), following which a potential scan is initiated from the deposition potential in the anodic direction. ASV is well-suited for the determination of trace amounts of many metal contaminants. “Stripping” refers to the characteristic sharp voltammetric waves that occur for metals as they are oxidized out of mercury, in which many metals form amalgams.

The Eastern Scotian Shelf Integrated Management(ESSIM) Initiative is a collaborative ocean planning process being led and facilitated by the Oceans and Coastal Management Division(OCMD), Fisheries and Oceans Canada(DFO-Maritimes Region) under the Oceans Act. The ESSIM Initiative was announced by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans in December 1998 and followed the recommendation from the Sable Gully Conservation Strategy that integrated management approaches be applied to the offshore area around the Sable Gully Area of Interest.(The Gully has since been officially designated as a Marine Protected Area under the Oceans Act.) The primary aim of the ESSIM Initiative is to develop and implement an Integrated Ocean Management Plan for this large marine region. This multi-year, strategic level plan will provide long-term direction and a common basis for integrated, ecosystem-based and adaptive ocean management.

[D]es quantités énormes d'énergie ne peuvent être emmagasinées que par des méthodes mécaniques. C'est ainsi qu'on emploie des centrales à réserve pompée. Pendant les heures de pointe ces centrales fonctionnent comme des centrales hydrauliques classiques, utilisant l'énergie de l'eau qui s'écoule d'un réservoir supérieur dans un réservoir inférieur. Pendant les périodes creuses, le processus est renversé. Les alternateurs fonctionnent comme des moteurs synchrones et entraînent les turbines qui deviennent d'énormes pompes prenant l'eau dans le réservoir inférieur pour le renvoyer dans le réservoir supérieur.

Centrale d'accumulation par pompage. - Une centrale hydroélectrique de pompage a pour fonction de fournir de l'énergie de pointe au réseau auquel elle est interconnectée. Elle travaille entre deux réservoirs, créés artificiellement à des niveaux différents, selon les modalités suivantes : - en période creuse de consommation d'énergie électrique, la capacité excédentaire du réseau est utilisée pour remplir par pompage le réservoir supérieur; de l'énergie est ainsi mise en réserve par accumulation hydraulique; - en période de pointe, de l'énergie électrique est fournie au réseau par turbinage de l'eau accumulée, qui est restituée au réservoir inférieur.
