This magnetic sweep uses seawater to complete the electric circuit. A loop sweep generates magnetic fields in all directions on each portion of the bottom under the sweep, making it effective against horizontal and vertical component mines in all orientations. Open-loop sweeps can be used only when the salinity of the water is suitable.

An apparatus consisting of a slowly revolving disk, usually regulated by clockwork, by means of which the action of external agents, as light and gravity, on growing plants may be regulated or eliminated.

CONT

The Clinostat has been used by biologists for over a hundred years to study how organisms might adapt to the microgravity environment and what effects the force of gravity has on plant and animal development and behavior. The clinostat is a simple device which places a plant, a small organism, or cell growing in culture on a rotating platform. The rotation causes the biosystem under test to be subjected to the gravity vector from "all" directions. From the system's point of view, the rotation cancels the gravity vector by continuous averaging thus approximating the highly reduced vector found in the actual space environment.

A shock or strut damps excessive vehicle spring motion by the controlled movement of fluid under pressure. Fluid provides the resistance to movement. The amount of that resistance is controlled by valving. Before Monroe gas charged shocks and struts, valve orifices could not be enlarged to increase riding comfort without losing damping effectiveness. So valving was compromised in one of two directions : soft or hard valving. With soft valving, fluid flows more easily. The result is a smooth ride, but with poor handling--and a lot of roll and sway. When valving is hard, fluid flows less easily. Handling is improved, but the ride can become rough.

With the push of a button, the driver selects ... Soft ... then changes to soft valving, providing a smooth, comfortable ride while still offering good handling characteristics.

A control scheme whereby the velocity vector of the end point of a manipulator arm is commanded and the computer determines the joint angular velocities to achieve the desired result. Coordination of a robot's axes so that the velocity vector of the end joint is under direct control. Motion in the coordinate system of the end point along specified directions or trajectories(line, circle, etc.) is possible. Used in manual control of manipulators and as a computational method for achieving programmed coordinate axis control in robots.
