The serve is an important element of Olympic table tennis and the same is true of the Paralympic version. Under Olympic rules, the ball must be placed in the open palm of the hand, thrown at least 16 cm into the air perpendicular to the table, and struck. In paralympic table tennis, where this is not possible, the ball may be tossed by placing it on the elbow or on the racket.

Table tennis ... has been part of the Paralympic programme since the first Games at Rome 1960 when wheelchair athletes competed. Events for standing players were first included at the Toronto 1976 Games. Table tennis only became an Olympic sport at Seoul 1988, so the Paralympic equivalent has a longer history.

Courts have used the word "consideration" with many different meanings. It is often used merely to express the legal conclusion that a promise is enforceable. Historically, its primary meaning may have been that the conditions were met under which an action of assumpsit(an early form of contract action) would lie. It was also used as the equivalent of the "quid pro quo" required in an action of debt. A seal, it has been said, imports a consideration, although the law was clear that no element of bargain was necessary to enforcement of a promise under seal. On the other hand, the addition of an effector to phosphorylase a causes the crystals first to crack and then to anneal, giving crystals of the enzyme in a second conformation.

A sign of damage to the anterior talofibular ligament. With the patient sitting on the edge of the examining table, his legs dangling and his feet in a few degrees of plantar flexion, the examiner places one hand on the anterior aspect of the lower tibia and grips the calcaneus in the palm of the other hand; then, he draws the calcaneus(and talus) anteriorly, while pushing the tibia posteriorly. Normally, the anterior talofibular ligament is tight in all positions of the ankle joint, and there should be no forward movement of the talus on the tibia. Under abnormal conditions, however, the talus slides anteriorly from under the cover of the ankle mortise(positive draw sign).

There are four classes of industrially important microorganisms : yeasts, molds, single-cell bacteria and actinomycetes. The yeasts and the molds are more highly developed; together they constitute the fungi. Organisms of this type are eukaryotic, that is, their cells, like the cells of the plants and animals, have a membrane-enclosed nucleus and more than one chromosome; they also contain organelles such as mitochondria.... The single-cell bacteria and the actinomycetes, in contrast, are prokaryotic : they have no nuclear membrane or mitochondria, and they have only one chromosome. In addition the cells of prokaryotes are typically much smaller than those of eukaryotes. In spite of these basic biological differences, there is a superficial resemblance between the molds and the actinomycetes in that both are filamentous : they grow as a branched system of threadlike hyphae rather than as single cells. The yeasts and the bacteria, on the other hand, are unicellular under normal conditions.

Water is applied to crops by surface, subsurface, sprinkler, and drip irrigation.... A sprinkler system consists of pipelines which carry water under pressure from a pump or elevated source to lateral lines along which sprinkler heads are spaced at appropriate intervals. Laterals are moved from one location to another by hand or tractor, or they are moved automatically. The side-roll wheel system, which utilizes the lateral as an axle, is very popular as a labor-saving method.

Social scoping refers to a very early activity in an impact assessment in which an attempt is made to identify the attributes or components of the environment for which there is public or professional concern, or both, and to which the assessment should primarily be addressed. On the other hand, ecological scoping is defined as an exploration of the possibilities for studying and predicting the effects of a planned action on the attributes or components so defined. Thus, social scoping establishes the terms in which impacts should be expressed, and ecological scoping establishes the terms under which the impacts can be studied and predicted.
