The latest in terminal handling equipment are the so-called automated guided vehicles(AGVs). These may be driverless container handlers, unmanned stacking cranes and new process control systems that allow all commands to be issued from a central computerized location. Unmanned dockside container cranes are also under consideration. AGVs will monitor their own oil, fuel and mechanical functions and use sensors to prevent collisions. 5, record 1, English, - automated%20guided%20vehicle

Once a park proposal is deemed feasible, [Parks Canada] negotiates the terms and conditions under which the creation or expansion will occur. A federal-provincial agreement is usually negotiated for a province to transfer administration and control of the land to the federal government for a new national park. In northern Canada, the process differs depending on the specific jurisdiction involved. Where the territory has jurisdiction over its public land, a federal-territorial agreement is usually negotiated. This is currently the case with [Yukon] and, pending finalization of devolution will soon be the case with the Northwest Territories. 2, record 3, English, - federal%2Dterritorial%20agreement

Hydrogen drones utilize hydrogen fuel cells for power. Hydrogen must be free of other elements and stored under high pressure to be a viable power source. Hydrogen is then converted within the fuel cell by mixing it with oxygen, and the byproduct is then removed with water. This process affords better energy density in comparison to battery drones. As a result, hydrogen drones can stay airborne for hours. 1, record 7, English, - hydrogen%20drone

The dribble belts are rough surface rubber belts set at an incline and rolling uphill(on the top surface).... We used a total of 5 dribble belts which are fed in series to result in a cumulative cleaning/sorting process. The first belt receives the "strippage" from the primary conveyor belt under the stripping section. The [hop] cones roll "downhill", while the leaves and less round debris such as branches stick to the rough surface and are drawn uphill along with some of the cones that don’t roll down the first dribble belt. Whatever hasn’t rolled down the first belt is delivered to the second where another round of separation takes place. This continues over 5 belts with the "trash" being deposited over the top of the last dribble belt onto a trash conveyor while the cones that come off the bottom of each dribble belt are deposited onto a primary hop conveyor. 2, record 15, English, - dribble%20belt

The CSA [comparative safety assessment] is basically a two-tiered approach. The initial step comprises a thorough comparison with the closely related conventional counterpart to identify any differences that may have safety implications for the consumer. This comparison includes both phenotypic characteristics as well as a compositional analysis. The phenotypic analysis should also include comparative health parameters. The compositional analysis will focus on key substances in the animal products under scrutiny and will be subject to changes according to the latest scientific state of the art. The second step of the CSA comprises the toxicological and nutritional evaluation of the identified differences between the GM [genetically modified] animal and its conventional counterpart. As a result of this second step, additional testing may be required and can result in an iterative process in order to obtain all relevant information for the final risk characterization. 2, record 42, English, - compositional%20analysis

When hard braking is applied for slowing down or stopping after an aborted takeoff or emergency stop situation, the tire is locked up and can’t rotate, causing rapid heat buildup. When the tire begins to smoke, rubber debris build up under the tire. As the skid continues, more and more debris cause a barrier to form against the water, preventing it from escaping past the tire. A seal has now been created... heating the water under the tire to a point where steam exists. The steam is strong enough to support the tire and prevent runway contact. The Eastern Scotian Shelf Integrated Management(ESSIM) Initiative is a collaborative ocean planning process being led and facilitated by the Oceans and Coastal Management Division(OCMD), Fisheries and Oceans Canada(DFO-Maritimes Region) under the Oceans Act. The ESSIM Initiative was announced by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans in December 1998 and followed the recommendation from the Sable Gully Conservation Strategy that integrated management approaches be applied to the offshore area around the Sable Gully Area of Interest.(The Gully has since been officially designated as a Marine Protected Area under the Oceans Act.) The primary aim of the ESSIM Initiative is to develop and implement an Integrated Ocean Management Plan for this large marine region. This multi-year, strategic level plan will provide long-term direction and a common basis for integrated, ecosystem-based and adaptive ocean management. 1, record 54, English, - Eastern%20Scotian%20Shelf%20Integrated%20Management%20Initiative

1, record 54, French, - Gestion%20int%C3%A9gr%C3%A9e%20de%20l%27est%20du%20plateau%20n%C3%A9o%2D%C3%A9cossais

Thermal conditioning. There are two basic processes for thermal treatment of sludges. One, wet air oxidation, is the flameless oxidation of sludges at temperatures of 450 to 550 °F and pressures of about 1200 psig. The other type, heat treatment, is similar but carried out at temperatures of 350 to 400 ºF and pressures of 150 to 300 psig. Wet air oxidation reduces the sludge to an ash and heat treatment improves the dewaterability of the sludge. Combustion Override Split Production Horizontal Well Process(COSH). The main feature of this process, developed by the Alberta Research Council(ARC), is implementation of gravity drainage using a basal horizontal well in a combustion process. The configuration of different wells is critical to the operation of this process. A linear configuration of vertical air injection wells is drilled and completed in the upper portion of the reservoir. A horizontal oil production well is completed in the bottom of the reservoir, aligned and positioned beneath the vertical injection wells. The reservoir is prepared for ignition and combustion is initiated at each of the injection wells. A hot fluid-transmissive chamber is formed around each of the injection wells as combustion proceeds. Combustion gas communication is established with the gas production wells. Heated oil and water, produced by the combustion front in each hot chamber, drains under the effect of gravity and is brought to the surface through the horizontal production well. 3, record 84, English, - combustion%20override%20split%20production%20horizontal%20well%20process

Rather than foster full recognition of both English and French in Canadian society, the actions of the Department of Justice would result in diminished opportunities for their use. The breach of obligations under section 41 must also be seen in light of the principle of official language equality under section 16 of the Charter, as well as the recognition that governments in Canada should advance by way of legislative action the equality of status or use of French and English. The principle of equality of our official languages must have substantive effects in order to ensure its full implementation. This imposes a constitutional obligation on the federal government to take the initiative in creating a necessary institutional support to the use of either official language. This obligation is ignored by action that reduces the scope of language rights as they apply to the legal process under federal jurisdiction. 1, record 91, English, - by%20way%20of%20legislative%20action

Material and product design incorporating agro-based materials goes beyond applications like thatched roofs, wattle façades and other examples harking back to older days. Its goal is to use proven and new technologies and make such composites that satisfy the demanded functional specifications while containing a high degree of environmental friendliness. The first applications of agro based materials in the building industry may be found in insulation and interior decoration. The Dutch market offers insulation materials based on waste paper(including Isofloc and Isocell). Flax insulation mats are produced in the Netherlands by Eco Fiber. Hemp is another material suitable for insulation mats. Hemp is better resistant to moisture than flax. But as yet there has not been much experience with applications of this material in the building industry. The use of coconut fibers as insulation material offers several benefits such as a low energy content and high insulation value. The material is naturally highly moisture resistant. Insulation materials can be treated with halogen-free cellulose fire retardant. To preserve the material, the fibers can be treated just like wood with boric salt. Another technology is to treat cellulose fibers via the so-called PLATO(Proving Lasting Advanced Timber Option) process. This involves heating the fibers in an autoclave under 14 atmosphere pressure to about 200 degrees Celsius. In this process the lignin and the hemi-cellulose in the fiber chemically react generating a water resistant bakelite-type of resin-compound around the remaining cellulose. 2, record 94, English, - agro%2Dbased%20material

There are two main ways that the offense can advance the ball : running and passing. In a typical play, the quarterback calls the play, and the center passes the ball backwards and under his legs to the quarterback in a process known as the snap. The quarterback then either hands the ball off to a back, throws the ball or runs with it himself. 2, record 98, English, - run%20the%20ball
