The foil is shaped in such a way that it generates lift as water flows over and under it. This lift counteracts the weight of the vessel, reducing the amount of hull surface area in contact with the water. The first major process in rebuilding a piano is disassembly, starting with the cabinet, then the strings, tuning pins, and finally the heavy cast-iron plate.... In a vertical [piano], first remove the front panels, upper pillars, lid, music shelf, fallboard, nameboard strip, keyslip, keyblocks, action, and keys. If you have a piano tilter..., move the piano far enough from the wall to tip it on its back. Stand the tilter up, center it behind the piano, and push it snugly against the back of the piano with the prongs under the bottom. With one assistant positioned in front to make sure the bottom can’t kick forward, tip the piano and tilter back together. Once the entire weight of the piano is on the tilter, your assistant can stop pushing the bottom of the piano toward the tilter. 1, record 3, English, - piano%20tilter

The body weight squat is perhaps the best lower body exercise a person can do. It basically works all the major muscle groups of the thighs, glutes and hamstrings.... Position your feet slightly wider then hip-width apart with your toes slightly turned out. Hold your hands out in front of you at shoulder height. This will counterbalance your weight and help you keep your balance. Slowly and under control, bend your knees and lower yourself down as far as you can without lifting your heels off the floor and then, after a brief pause at the bottom, push your weight back up until you are back at the starting position. 1, record 6, English, - body%20weight%20squat

Glare is a laminated material made of alternate layers of aluminium and glass fibre. The word ’Glare’ stands for Glassfibre Reinforced Aluminium. Glare was developed in co-operation with the Delft University of Technology and the Netherlands National Aerospace Laboratory(NLR).... Glare has greatly reduced susceptibility to metal fatigue and is therefore stronger than aluminium, which allows significant weight savings to be achieved.... The Glare material is bonded under high pressure and temperature in [the Glare autoclave]. Glare combines the ideal characteristics of metal and composites. The selected fibre material is glass fibre, and the metal used is aluminium. To ensure high integrity and durability of the aluminium and glass fibre layers, these are securely bonded using an epoxy resin. The resin and bonding must be able to resist the extreme operating conditions encountered in flight, such as pressure, tension and torsion forces, as well as extreme temperatures in polar and tropical regions, and must be designed for a long operational lifetime. 1, record 26, English, - Glare%C2%AE

This flies a load into a specific location from a safe stand-off range vice just utilizing the safety of high altitude. Systems under development range in current weight capacity from 500 to 2000 pounds. The systems use various modes of operation. The first enactment of revenue-sharing legislation was the inclusion of the Coastal Energy Impact Program(CEIP) in the Coastal Zone Management Act in 1976. The CEIP provided grants, loans, and loan guarantees to assist coastal states with costs of public services, infrastructure, and preventing or ameliorating the loss of valuable environmental or recreational resources caused by coastal and OCS oil and gas development. Allocation of funds under this program to individual states was based on the amount of OCS acreage leased for oil and gas development(50% weight), volume of oil and gas produced offshore each state(25% weight), and volume of oil and gas first landed in each state(25% weight). The Reagan administration stopped funding the CEIP and Congress repealed the program in 1990. 1, record 54, English, - Coastal%20Energy%20Impact%20Program

When a turbine comes to rest, after operating, the cooler denser steam tends to collect in the lower half of the cylinder and makes the lower half of the rotor cool quicker than the upper half. This causes the shaft to hog(bend upwards). When at rest and cool, the shaft will begin to sag under its own weight. If the turbine shaft is not rotated, hogging, especially above a critical temperature, can become permanent and the shaft would have to be sent to the manufacturer for heat treatment and straightening. 1, record 60, English, - hogging

Finally, some SUVs and pickups are so large(greater than 8, 500 lbs. GVWR [gross vehicle weight rating]) that they do not qualify as "light trucks" under the current standards. These include the largest full-sized pickups and passenger vans, and larger models of the Ford Excursion and Chevrolet Suburban SUVs. However, EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] recently added the classification "medium-duty passenger vehicle" to include heavy passenger vehicles-passenger vans and SUVs up to 10, 000 GVWR starting in MY2004. Heavy pickups and cargo vans will not be affected, since their main function is transporting cargo, as opposed to passengers. This change is only for emissions standards, and will not affect fuel economy standards. 4, record 71, English, - medium%2Dduty%20passenger%20vehicle

Before the grain is shipped at multi-terminal ports, the clearance association receives "shipping orders" from exporters. These orders are marched with the "charter slips" received by vessel agents for incoming ships to minimize the number of terminals at which a ship will have to berth to complete loading. Grain in drawn from the terminal elevators under the supervision of the CGC, which issues a "Certificate Final" stating the weight and grade on which the transaction is based. Even when the designer has settled the size and angle of the tail plane, the force which it will experience will be outside the control of the pilot, and although they may automatically compensate for such things as changes in pitching moment on the main planes, they cannot possibly deal with changes of weight such as are caused by the dropping of bombs, consumption of fuel, and changes in the disposition of passengers and cargo. For this reason the adjustable tail plane was introduced, this being operated by an actuating gear and controlled by a wheel or lever in the pilot's cockpit. This enabled the pilot to alter the angle of setting of the tail plane during flight and so cause downward or upward forces upon it at will, thus balancing the aeroplane under all conditions. 2, record 86, English, - adjustable%20tailplane

Latex bearing plants of the Euphorbiaceae family usually contain, in addition to rubber, important levels of highly reduced constituents. However the molecular weight of these products is too high to allow for a direct use as fuels and/or feedstocks. We examined the pyrolysis of the latex and of the heptanic extract of Euphorbia tirucalli, a species commonly growing in East Africa. Pyrolyses were carried out under an inert gas flow, in the absence or in the presence of various zeolites.... The zeolitic catalysts-improve the yield of volatile products from the extract-influence the relative abundance of the volatile constituents of the pyrolysates-strongly increase the hydrocarbon level, especially from latex, in the low and medium volatility fraction. 1, record 97, English, - zeolitic%20catalyst

The use of growing cells in suspension as biocatalysts is generally termed fermentation. Such processes may be distinguished as batch, fed batch or continuous depending on the kinetic relationship between addition of substrate and harvesting of product. Non-growing systems include the use of suspensions, cells retained within a semipermeable membrane, or cells immobilized in or on a solid support. Such immobilized cells may be used in a fixed bed, expanded bed, fluid bed or fully mixed system.... Although many so-called fermentation reactions are carried out under aerobic conditions, these are of little interest in the present context since, when oxygen is used as the terminal electron acceptor, the production of low molecular weight metabolites of the type required is restricted and a high proportion of the carbon in the feedstock is converted into cell biomass. 1, record 98, English, - cell%20biomass
