CONT

Nitrogen factor is used to measure fish content in processed products like coated fish or fish fillet with added water. When fish is processed under wet conditions under good hygienic practice and good manufacturing practice, there may be some degree of water absorption and loss of soluble nitrogen. Nitrogen factors have been established for some fish species under GMP [good manufacturing practices] and GHP [good hygienic practices] and interim nitrogen factors are available for some species.

Subject field(s)
  • Plant Diseases
  • Vegetable Crop Production
DEF

Disease of sugar beet caused by Peronospora farinosa (formerly P. schachtii).

OBS

Symptoms : All aboveground plant parts may be affected. Large, light green leaf spots develop on the upper leaf surfaces. Under moist conditions, a white to gray moldy appears on the lower or upper leaf surfaces. Affected leaves may wilt, then die. If environmental conditions become unfavorable for downy mildew, plants may show recovery by developing healthy leaves, or other pathogens may be encouraged. During fall wet periods, most young petioles or leaves are covered with a fungal growth that often moves into the crown. Crown infections may permit other root-decay organisms to invade the plant. Crown infection causes excessive leaf proliferation which in turn causes misshapen bulbs.

Key term(s)
  • downy mildew of sugarbeet

DEF

CONT

Didymella applanata, a fungus. The disease is found in western Oregon and Washington on red rasberry, ’Loganberry’, and ’Youngberry’. The ’Willamette’ cultivar of red raspberry is rapidly infected by spur blight but also is tolerant and can produce a satisfactory crop even if disease incidence is high. From early April mature black fruiting bodies(perithecia) can be found in the gray affected areas of cane tissue. Perithecia discharge ascospores during favorable(wet) weather, continuing perhaps until the end of June. Ascospores infect leaves on new shoots, but under very favorable conditions may infect young canes and laterals directly.

Les pathogènes de la cavité buccale sont par nature opportunistes et, dans des conditions normales, ne causent pas de problèmes de santé. CONT

... the soil condition, at the time set for the keyline cultivation of some areas, was very wet, and in the new areas, soil asphyxiation was evident.... Rain persisted and kept all the soil overwet right through to and past the middle of winter. Under these conditions, air which is so obviously essential, is excluded by excess water. The desirable balance of moisture, warmth and air in the soil had been destroyed.

CONT

Vegetative deaths caused by leachate generally are due to waterlogging and consequent soil anaerobism - not leachate toxicity.

CONT

Wet air oxidation is the process of breaking down oxidizable inorganic and organic waste in a high-temperature, high-pressure, aqueous environment. The process is categorized as a low-temperature thermal treatment.

CONT

In the wet air oxidation or wet combustion of sludges, air pressures are raised to 1200 to 1800 psig [pounds per square inch gage-82 to 124 bars] and the accompanying temperature becomes 540°F or more. Under these conditions there is no vaporization of the sludge liquid.... External heat is applied to start oxidation of the organic matter in the sludge. Thereafter, oxidation increases until the rate reaches an equilibrium value.

On réalise une oxydation poussée de la matière organique, simultanément à la transformation physique de la matière colloïdale.
