Prime editing is [an] innovative gene editing technique that allows for precise modifications to the DNA sequence, including insertions, deletions and substitutions, without the need for double-strand breaks. It combines the functions of a catalytically impaired Cas9 enzyme(nickase) and a reverse transcriptase enzyme, along with a unique RNA [ribonucleic acid] molecule called prime editing guide RNA(pegRNA). 4, record 1, English, - prime%20editing

This solid-state, combined analog and digital computer supplies pre-launch power to Lance from a 19-cell, 24v dc(direct current) Ni-Cad(Nickel-Cadmium) battery, it inserts range information into the missile guidance set before launch, controls the missile's safe, arming and firing mechanisms, and monitors the firing sequence. 1, record 4, English, - monitor%2Fprogrammer

Site-directed mutagenesis technique based on the use of an oligodeoxynucleotide cassette(a synthetic double-stranded DNA fragment). The X-ray diffraction results, in fact, point to a new form of structural disorder called phason disorder, which is unique to quasicrystals. If one compares a Penrose tiling or a quasiperiodic sequence with a conventional crystal, one sees that the quasiperiodic structures have the ability to generate a new form of disorder during growth : a defect can arise when the wrong kind of unit cell, or line segment, falls in a particular place. A few isolated mistakes will not affect the diffraction properties of an entire sample, but if many such mistakes plague a sample, they will disturb the diffraction patterns. 1, record 17, English, - phason%20disorder

Un défaut peut naître lorsqu'une cellule unité (ou un segment) de type inadéquat vient se placer dans un endroit particulier. Scrapie, the prototype of a group of diseases which have the unique property of being both hereditary and infectious, is also exceptional in that it fails to evoke an immune response. Purification of crude scrapie preparations showed a strong association of infectivity with a membrane protein(’PrPSC') ;but a protein with the same amino acid sequence(’PrPC') was subsequently also found in normal mammalian nervous tissue. It is postulated by some investigators that ’PrPSC' is itself the infectious agent, or the most important part thereof, but in papers making that proposal immunological aspects have not been addressed. Experimental evidence supporting the hypothesis of a membrane fragment as agent has likewise lately not been taken into account. A modified form of the membrane hypothesis could account for immunological as well as genetic aspects of these diseases. 1, record 18, English, - PrPSC

Binding of the TATA Binding Protein(TBP) to the TATA box is the first step in the formation of the transcription pre-initiation complex(Nakajima, et. al, 1988). TBP demonstrates DNA binding properties unique among the sequence-specific DNA binding proteins, namely a strong temperature dependence of binding and slow on/off rates(Horikoshi, et. al, 1988; Lee, et. al, 1992). In this study, the temperature dependent binding of yeast TBP(yTBP) to the TATA box consensus sequence from adenovirus major late promoter is characterized. A computer program, which runs on MS-DOS personal computers, is described that assists in the design of synthetic genes coding for proteins. The goal of the program is the design of a gene which(i) contains as many unique restriction sites as possible and(ii) uses a specific codon usage. The gene designed according to the criteria above is(i) suitable for ’modular mutagenesis’ experiments and(ii) optimized for expression. The program ’reverse-translates’ protein sequences into degenerated DNA sequences, generates a map of potential restriction sites and locates sequence positions where unique restriction sites can be accommodated. The nucleic acid sequence is then ’refined’ according to a specific codon usage to remove any degeneration. Unique restriction sites, if potentially present, can be ’forced’ into the degenerated nucleic acid sequence by using ’priority codes’ assigned to different restriction sequences. 1, record 21, English, - synthetic%20gene

Video compression ratios available from various vendors of full-motion video boards range up to 160 : 1 and perform adequately on standalone multimedia desktop platforms transmitting image data from CD-ROM or videodisk peripherals. However, these compression ratios will not be sufficient for effective transmission of complex videos and renderings that are being produced by engineering designers or even simpler videos in highly interactive multiuser networked environments. The solution, however, is already on the horizon in the form of fractional dimensional compression techniques(fractals) that can reach astonishing compression ratios of 10, 000 : 1. This is possible because fractals, despite their apparent complexity, have a very low information content and can be specified as relatively simple expressions. Fractal compression is obtained via mathematical functions that describe a sequence of transformations of an image and when applied repeatedly, converge on a unique fractal. Fractal compression algorithms can be incorporated in software or VLSI microchips and, if applied to a typical CD-ROM disk, should provide nearly seven hours of full-motion. 2, record 23, English, - fractal%20compression

1, record 23, French, - compression%20fractale

For pulp fibers, many of the diagnostic features of cell formation seen in wood samples are lost. However, positive identification is possible by following a logical sequence of exclusion, and finally comparing unknown fibers with authenticated fiber samples and/or photomicrographs. The technique is straightforward, especially where only a limited number of choices are possible. The principal diagnostic feature is the shape and orientation of the cell wall openings(pits) in softwood earlywood tracheids and hardwood vessels which are unique for each species. 1, record 24, English, - ray%20crossing%20pits

The stored bits correspond to the last branches of the most likely data sequence estimations called survivor paths. It has been shown that when the survivor paths are traced backwards, they rapidly converge to a unique path which represents the most likely estimation of the message. The length L of the diverging part of the paths, called the truncation length, is programmable : it should be set to 32 for the 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 rate codes, and to 64 for the 3/4 rate code. 1, record 25, English, - survivor%20path
