The unloader type of regulator is used on high-pressure sprayers. This valve bypasses excess liquid during operation and, when the boom or handgun is shut off, returns all liquid to the tank at a very low pressure. The unloader regulator is a definite asset on sprayers powered by an auxiliary engine and on sprayers equipped with a piston or plunger pump.

Le type de régulateur à détendeur est utilisé sur les pulvérisateurs à pression élevée. Cette soupape renvoie l'excès de liquide au réservoir durant l'opération et, lorsque la rampe ou la lance est fermée, elle retourne tout le liquide au réservoir à très faible pression. Un régulateur de ce genre est très avantageux sur les pulvérisateurs actionnés par moteur auxiliaire et sur ceux qui sont munis d'une pompe à piston ou à plongeur.
