Unneutral service.... A neutral vessel will be condemned and... receive the same treatment as would be applicable to her if she were an enemy merchant vessel :(1) If she takes a direct part in the hostilities;(2) if she is under the order or control of an agent placed on board by the enemy Government;(3) if she is in the exclusive employment of the enemy Government;(4) if she is exclusively engaged at the time either in the transport of enemy troops or in the transmission of intelligence in the interest of the enemy. 1, record 1, English, - unneutral%20service

contrebande par analogie : Expression employée par certains auteurs à la fin du XIXe siècle à l'occasion de certains transports, p. ex. de correspondances, d'un diplomate, de membres de l'armée, effectués par un navire neutre au profit d'un belligérant, pour appliquer à ce navire le traitement qui lui serait applicable s'il transportait de la contrebande de guerre. Whereas the aims of land warfare are defeat of the enemy army and occupation of the enemy territory, the aims of sea warfare are : defeat of the enemy navy; annihilation of the enemy merchant fleet; destruction of enemy coast fortifications, and of maritime as well as military establishments on the enemy coast; cutting off intercourse with the enemy coast; prevention of carriage of contraband and of rendering unneutral service to the enemy; all kinds of support to military operations on land, such as protection of a landing of troops on the enemy coast; and lastly, defence of the home coast and protection to the home merchant fleet. 1, record 2, English, - sea%20warfare
