A type of barge in great demand for offshore oil and gas operations.

The crane barge, which may have a dual role of any barge, and is sometimes called a derrick barge, or derrick-lay barge, mounts a single high lifting capacity derrick type crane at the stern. Its services are essential when heavy modules are being installed on offshore platforms. Some crane barge are converted oil tankers which provide the necessary long unobstructed working deck area.
