Record 4 2006-11-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Road Maintenance
DEF

Shape correction of unpaved road or shoulder surface by mechanical grader.

CONT

Dry blading unpaved roads does not hold up for any length of time before washboarding, raveling and potholes appear. This results in frequent blading to maintain an acceptable level of service ... A water truck and compactor must accompany the blade during normal blading operations. Proper compaction following blading reduces the frequency of maintenance as well as the loss of surface material.

OBS

blading: term proposed by the World Road Association.

  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
CONT

Design of Geosynthetic-Reinforced Unpaved Roads.... The use of geotextiles in unpaved roads is one of the most widely accepted geotextile applications, and geogrids are increasingly used in this application. Geotextiles and geogrids placed between a soft subgrade soil and an aggregate base layer improve the performance of the unpaved road essentially by performing two functions : separation and reinforcement.

OBS

Geosynthetics: The generic classification of all synthetic materials used in geotechnical engineering applications; it includes geotextiles, geocells, geogrids, geomembranes, and geocomposites.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Construction des voies de circulation
  • Génie civil
  • Mécanique des sols
OBS
