OBS

A schedule by which reinforcement is delivered following an average, but varying, passage of time. For example, a V130 schedule would be one by which the behavior that occurred following a passage of time averaging thirty minutes would be reinforced. For the first interval the behavior might be reinforced after ten minutes, for the second interval it might be forty minutes. Each interval would be unpredictable but would average thirty minutes. The VI schedules produce relatively even response patterns and a low frequency of response.

DEF

A geometrical object toward which the trajectory of a dynamical system represented by a curve in the phase space, converges in the course of time.

CONT

Predictable, or tame, attractors correspond to the behavior to which a system settles down or is "attracted". A strange attractor is represented by an unpredictable trajectory where a minute difference in starting positions of two initially adjacent points leads to totally uncorrelated positions later in time or in the mathematical iteration.

CONT

Recursion relations are also used to construct fractal attractors characteristic of chaotic motion. As a simple example we briefly mention dynamic systems that period double on their way to chaos ... However the set invariant with regard to (2.19) is a repeller (not an attractor). It can be shown that the attractor forms approximately a non-uniform Cantor set.

DEF

PHR

calculer, changer, construire, converger vers, définir, dessiner, fabriquer, identifier, illustrer, reconstituer, sauter d'un attracteur à un autre, tendre vers un attracteur, tracer, trouver, visiter, visualiser un attracteur.

PHR

attracteur apériodique, binaire, bipériodique, borné, chaotique, cyclique, domestique, étrange, féroce, fractal, fréquenté, instable, non périodique, pervers, simple, stable, vague.

PHR

PHR

attracteur apériodique, binaire, bipériodique, borné chaotique, cyclique, domestique, étrange, féroce, fractal, fréquenté, instable, non périodique, pervers, simple, stable, vague.

CONT

Representing the evolution in time of a dynamic system by left shifts of the digits in a suitable number system brings out another important property of systems for which such a representation is possible. No matter how accurately the initial condition x0 of a coordinate is known, the accuracy will always be finite, that is, the digits of x0 to the right of the last known digit will be unknown. As the dynamic system evolves in time, the unknown digits will be shifted to the left; that is, they will grow in significance, and will sooner or later arrive at the "decimal" point and thus dominate the behavior of the system. And because the digits are unknown, this behavior will be completely unpredictable. The resulting motion is called chaotic.

DEF

PHR

Subject field(s)
  • Human Behaviour
OBS

An intermittent schedule of reinforcement in which the delivery of reinforcement varies in a random manner, either over time or number of behavior, in a manner so that the person behaving cannot predict when reinforcement will occur. If reinforcement is delivered following a behavior once a day but the time of delivery varies and is unpredictable, this is a variable-interval(VI) schedule. If reinforcement occurs once for each ten or twenty behaviors but varies and is unpredictable, this is a variable-ratio(VR) schedule. All gambling, such as a slot machine, is based on VR schedules. Variable schedules produce constant behavior that are relatively resistant to extinction.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Comportement humain
OBS
