The UNSPSC® is a hierarchical convention that is used to classify all products and services. It is the most efficient, accurate and flexible classification system available today for achieving company-wide visibility of spend analysis, enabling procurement to deliver on cost-effectiveness demands and allowing full exploitation of electronic commerce capabilities. It was jointly developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Dun & Bradstreet Corporation (D & B) in 1998. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). UNSPSC® is a registered trademark of UNDP.

Translations are one of our most requested enhancements. We are working to provide translations of the Unified codeset (V6.0315) and subsequent releases. More information will be available on translations shortly, as we finalize plans to provide updated translations as well as increase the number of languages for which we provide codeset translation. As should be expected, increasing levels of accuracy will be achieved through constant revision. We look to members to provide an invaluable contribution by providing feedback to us on variations in meaning resulting from language conversion.

The new system is the result of a merger of the UN's Common Coding System(UNCCS) with Dun & Bradstreet's Standard Products and Services Codes(SPSC).

These percentages are then adjusted slightly through a process of negotiation among all states. The currency of negotiation is "mitigation points", which are 1/100 of a percent of the UN's budget. Once established, these percentages apply for a three-year period.
